I was just thinking of some things I found frustrating in DCS and would be nice to have in a future update. I am a relatively new player, so I thought I'd provide my possibly unique point of view (I apologize if some or all of these have already been addressed):

1. The ability to navigate steps in training missions (skip this step, go back to previous step, mute instructor so I can read the text and get through it faster etc.) I often find myself screwing something up and having to restart the entire mission, then increase the sim rate and go through the same steps many times.

2. Having a 'Restart' option instead of just quit in the escape menu. This may be unnecessary if #1 is implemented.

3. Being able to assign axis controls to everything. As an example, I would like to use one of the mini-sticks on my X-56 to move the view, so I can free up my POV hat to be used as the DMS in the A-10C.

4. Create a standard nomenclature for controls (the F-16 says LG retract instead of landing gear retract, which makes it difficult to find when searching).

5. Revamp the mission editor to make it more intuitive. It can be a little intimidating. For example, I couldn't figure out how to get a tanker to transmit a TACAN frequency.

6. Fix the A-10 hud so all the information can be seen (my waypoint data block is mostly cut-off and the symbology is far too dim, it's nearly impossible to see, even at max intensity, against a pale background).

Having an assignable button press to the HOTAS in the UI to proceed over using only the space bar, trade the kingdom for that in VR.

I have asked this in a thread, but a generic default profile for planes and helicopters. I am not asking to remove the module specific profiles rather just a generic one which will set the default settings for new modules. People say this will this would ruin dcs but I don't get why reassigning your second throttle from rudder to right thrust is an important part of dcs.

+1 would be very useful.

This is hardware specific AFAIK. My stick for instance allows you to configure virtul buttons along most of the axis, as well as having the option there to configure analogue mini-sticks as 8-way hats.

Absolutely, and it can be said for many things as well (such as display names of weapons for instance).

What do you have in mind? Personally, it was more intuitive for me and I think the ME is pretty good in this regard. There is a bit of learning to do when you first get into it but past that and it seems pretty user friendly IMO.

There are some more actions I'd like - such as triggered stopping of actions in addition to the regular stop conditions (though some actions don't have that).

This AFAIK is actually realistic.

Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.

Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas.

System:

GIGABYTE B650 AORUS ELITE AX, AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5200 32 GB, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070S FE, Western Digital Black SN850X 1 TB (DCS dedicated) & 2 TB NVMe SSDs, Corsair RM850X 850 W, NZXT H7 Flow, MSI G274CV.

Peripherals: VKB Gunfighter Mk.II w. MCG Pro, MFG Crosswind V3 Graphite, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

Something I'd like to see built into DCS would be a 'universal control setup' that would map certain controls that are used in multiple jets (for example, L/R thrust, Brakes, zoom, look, weapon select, etc). This way we can set multiple jets up in one fell swoop, rather than just one at a time (which, given the sheer number of controls per plane, does seem like a bit of an oversight...)

1. This is actually possible. I did some interactive training missions before with branching choices, etc. I realized that bi-directional narrative is completely within the scope of the system. It comes down to the design of the mission and how much work the author wishes to put in. There are two inputs that the wait for user input command can take, space bar and backspace and each flip a particular flag when received. It would be doable to make the backspace go backward a logical chapter in the tutorial. With custom entries in the F10 menu anything is possible logically.

2. Certainly

3. This is where the difference between absolute and relative axes comes into play. DCS codes them as entirely separate types. You can already assign a joystick axis to view direction. What you probably want is to bind joystick axes to relative view direction.

For example mouse-relative is:

{combos = {{key = 'MOUSE_X'}}, action = iCommandPlaneViewHorizontal, name = _('Camera Horizontal View')},

While joystick-absolute is:

{    action = iCommandViewHorizontalAbs,        name = _('Absolute Camera Horizontal View')},

I don't know what happens if you attempt to bind a joystick to relative. I think I did it before and the sensitivity was off the charts.

4. Absolutely, the commands in the key list should be exactly string perfect match to the phrase in the manual.

5. Sure.

6. Geometrically it's accurately modeled but brightness could probably use some work. The human eye's performance can be hard to replicate through screens.
