JB3DG Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Hi Is it possible to uninstall regular DCS but keep open beta? I need to free up some space on my 1TB SSD.
Flappie Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Absolutely. Here's how to do it: Win key, Settings > Apps > Apps & featres Look for "DCS" You should see this: Click "DCS World" then "Uninstall". ---

AvgWhiteGuy Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 Have a similar issue with a full SSD; need to replace or add another. The 446GB drive is C:\ and it's hitting it's limits. Before I replace I would like to remove-move or whatever some of the Terrains. Just d/l'd Syria at it's whopping 55GB so I was thinking about removing Normandy & Persian Gulf temporarily to free up some space. Can I simply delete those subdirs from C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\terrains OR move them to another drive? Could it possibly be that simple? In related matter, would it be a benefit to load everything DCS on a separate SSD 500GB and get it off the C:\ ???? Appreciate the help....I just want to fly & blow shit up Asus B85 Pro Gamer - 32GB - Intel® Core i5-4460 CPU - SanDisk SDSSDXPS480G -Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 TrackIR5 - TM Warthog HOTAS Stick & Throttle - TM Cougar MFCDs - TM TPR Rudder Pedals - Razer Orbweaver - SoundBlasterX G5 DAC

If you have a 'spare' drive you should be able to copy and paste your DCS folder from your C drive to another. Your Saved Game/DCS folder would remain on the C Drive, but the relationships between the two folders should stay the same. Running DCS on a dedicated SSD for ease of management, with a backup of the Saved Game folder on the SSD to be on the safeside. TM Warthog Hotas; T.Flight Pedals; DelanClip/Trackhat.
AvgWhiteGuy Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 @Leg2ion.....I 'moved' the Normandy & Persian Gulf regions to another SSD for now, DCS Mgr obviously doesn't know about this and tells me I can download these according my previous purchases. I understand that completely and will move them AND all /DCS to a new SSD when I install. II.JG1_Vonrd Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 As per the title of this thread, I want to get rid of everything related to the stable version of DCS since I never use it. I only run the Beta. I have run the uninstaller but there are still folders taking up space. Can I safely delete the folders shown? They are so large that Windows says they won't fit in the recycle bin and have to be permanently removed. Therefore, I'm hesitant.

The one under /Eagle Dynamics/ ... yes, it is just the program files and if needed can be reinstalled again at a later date. Now, the one under /Saved Games/ ... not so fast. You may want to keep it in case you ever reinstall the stable version in the future .. it contains your control bindings for every aircraft, and also contains your Logbook with your flight hours that you put on DCS stable, as well as the status of any Campaign that you flew on that version. It also contains any mission that you edited on that DCS, screenshots, any track that you saved, custom liveries, etc. It's size should be much much smaller than the folder under /Eagle Dynamics/ so it may not be very worthwhile to delete it. Thanks for the info! It's been years since I've flown the stable version and the way it's looking, the beta is going to be the de-facto for the foreseeable future. There are no skins, campaigns, screenshots, etc. in that Saved Games folder. Would I lose control bindings in the Beta if I delete the Stable Saved Games folder? Looking at the Config/Input folder, all of the bindings are for my old Hotas which has been put out to pasture. It seems that there should be no issue then... correct?

No, your Openbeta bindings are stored at /Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/ 28 minutes ago, II.JG1_Vonrd said: Looking at the Config/Input folder, all of the bindings are for my old Hotas which has been put out to pasture.
