RTX 3080 or RX 6900 XT for VR with HP reverb G2

So I have an incoming PC with an Intel i9-10900 KF that I want to use for DCS in VR using an HP reverb G2. Originally it was going to have an RTX 3080, however due to a mistake by the seller, it is currently out of stock, so he's proposing to give me an RX 6900 XT instead for the same price.

Would it be better to wait for the RTX 3080 for some weeks or accept the switch to the 6900 xt? Google searches have been inconclusive, some say that AMD has the edge, but NVIDIA is better in overall for VR in dcs, which makes me believe it should be almost the same.  Any thoughts?

I've been reading of problems with AMD 6000 series and motion smoothing .

Has this been fixed with the latest driver update ?

I have a 6900XT and I haven't experienced any problems with motion smoothing. The latest driver is absolutely brilliant though. That's the thing with AMD: you can expect the product you bought to get better over time as drivers mature 🙂

Good to hear , as my RiftS will die at the end of the year , and both replacements i'm considering require motion smoothing .

I'm really happy with my 6800xt .

Not for me. Just installed my 6900XT last night, downloaded whatever latest driver listed and motion smoothing, while "smooth", is unacceptable cockpit artifact and some other weird "tearing" effect on the cockpit while looking around.

Radeon software is left at default, and the only SteamVR settings I changed are in my signature.

I take it you are using driver version 21.4.1? And that you have removed the initial version of Windows Update KB5001330?

Roger on the driver version. Have not removed KB5001330 as I read MS had patched it.

Was a little white lie from MS in this case?

Edit: just checked again. 5001330 never installed to my system.

Yes they have: they released a new version since.

Quite odd, that is. MS pushed it a while ago automatically.

I usually keep mine paused. Just unpaused it and there it comes.

Download keeps failing though.

I run my Index with Motion Smoothing off with fps around 60 (40 low over a crowded city). If it is on fps jump from 40's to 60's and worse if flying low over a city.

A quick look at fpsVR shows all sorts of spikes I'm both gpu and cpu frame times vs smoothish frame times with MS off.

Had the same problem, solved it by following this guide. Don't know if the problem with KB5001330 appers on non-WRMs.
