Until you see military inaction you don't even know what that is. In fact, if this was the Navy they'd just do more of what they're doing, because if something isn't working that's the obvious solution. Eventually while you're briefing the flight in the ready room the LSOs come in to give you the cut-pass before you launch, just be be efficient... (I'm being mean to LSOs who, for all I know, are conscientious, hard working people. I've never actually met one. I did spend enough years in the Navy to know how it operates in general, though...)
Gierasimov Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Disabling wake turbulence in options seem to improve pass grades considerably. Nealius Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 That begs the question: User error in handling the burble causing cut passes because the passes actually are bad, or LSO error in that the code hasn't been updated to deal with users' corrections in response to the burble? 2

Knowing how I fly? I always default to the nut behind the stick; it takes a lot of evidence for me to suspect the software. Generally if a problem is common I might think it's something else, but landing on a carrier is only easy for CGI artists, who can put an F-14 down the centerline even after losing an engine in the groove. Come to think of it I haven't even tried since the new simpit build. I'm sure that after two or three months without doing any work around the boat I'll be predictably skillful on those first two or three. Hundred passes. <edit> Yup. As I suspected. Enough bolters and the LSO starts to ask if you've ever considered flying for the Air Force, then if maybe you should try a Cessna, then they send you in shame to an 'alternate'. Wait4It Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 The new flight model seems to make a lot of good changes for the landings. Not entirely sure if it fixes everything, but feels better so far. How are your results?
Nealius Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 (edited) In the Tomcat on multiplayer only the first pass is accurately graded. All subsequent passes are cut or no-grade. Those same passes are graded very differently with 3rd party plugins like MOOSE/AIRBOSS. Edited March 2, 2024 by Nealius 1
Raisuli Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 I made a mission last night that uses a static carrier (as in not moving static) standing in for FCLP. No wind, no nothing so the approach is a little skewed. Got an (OK) Wire 3[BC] during testing after the first touch and go. Need to start calling the ball even if I don't do the approach comms, but more than a little surprised that I got a grade, and it was not a "GTF off my boat", which is what I normally get on a moving carrier.
Mr. Crow Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 (edited) The Flight Model is being worked on... As of now, It is surely bugged. It's been that way since 2021. They have stated many times that it is being worked on and it got slightly better already. The LSO still sees the nose coming down hard and still sees the 3 point landing. There is a workaround, however. You can pull up just before hitting the deck. For that, you have to fly a slightly low ball and pull up (hard) at the last instant. I can get it right 90% of the time and get an OK pass. The ease the gun (i.e., EGIW) grade is clearly a bug. You should hit mil power after touch down, not prior. This is very annoying. Once again, the workaround is to fly a slightly low ball and hit mil power, before touchdown (meh!). Edited June 9, 2024 by Mr. Crow 3
