159th_Viper Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 (edited) Aye All Herewith following are two In-Cockpit screens taken on a clean install of LockOn with only the HDR Mod installed.Screenshots are from 2 different Computers, namely mine and a fellow Squad Mate, Popeye, in an attempt to sort out Visibility issues that he has been having. As said, on a clean install with a test mission that has you spawning in Cockpit at 5000m AGL. The test mission is at default settings where Weather, Time, Vis range etc etc are concerned. Our In-Game settings are also mirrored. The only difference is that I am running an ATI card while he is running a NVidia card. Herewith screenies: VIPER POPEYE As evident from the Comparative shots - a substantial difference. In my capture Krymsk AB can just be seen in the distance to the centre right of the HUD/To the left of the portion of Krymsk Lake evident on the right, whereas with Popeye's capture there is no chance at visibly locating it. Now the Questions are: 1. What could possibly be causing the discrepancy, having due regard to the fact that out installs are identical? Could it be something as Arbitrary as a monitor setting? 2. Alternatively - could it be the GPU's? If so - where does one begin to troubleshoot in order to rectify Popeye's GPU, assuming that the trouble lies there.Having said that, I would submit that the more 'realistic' view would be as portrayed in my screenshot than Popeye's......however tell me if I'm wrong. 3. Lastly - I'm almost certain that the settings in the HDR Mod can be tweaked to lessen the 'Brightness'. If I am correct in the said assumption, which settings would that be? Any assistance appreciated. Ta :) Edited October 4, 2008 by 159th_Viper Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! graywo1fg Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Hmmmmm i have an ATI 3870 ice blue card and mine looks like Popeyes!? i have seen many other shots where others look like Popeye's as well.. the only thing i can think of is a video Driver? or are you guys using the same "HDR" mod config? i'm using Yeniceri's tweak for it and it looks great! there should be a setting for brightness but the only one i can remember off the top of my head it "Bloom_power_Day" i think..... i'm at work now so i am not able to look at the file :( Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
BlackSharkAce Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 The hdr mode, if you mean the enbseries, only works with Nvidia cars I believe.. And the configu should be done at taste, because it changes from hardware to hardware.. Dynamic contrast and so on, interefere a lot with the onscreen image.
Kuky Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I think I might have found what's causing this brightness... does he by any chance have Samsung LCD monitor and has MagicBright enabled? See i just tried this HDR mod on my machine and just playing with built in brightness/contract configuration on my monitor if I set MagicBright to DynamicContrast it looks just like on Popeye's machine (from screenshot) 1 No longer active in DCS...
graywo1fg Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 (edited) i dont think monitor brightness would effect a screenshot.....would it? Kuky Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 This Dynamic Contrast looks like crap TBH and I tried it and it makes things too bright just like on screenshot from Popeye's machine. No longer active in DCS...
159th_Viper Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 Ta for the replies :) A question comes to mind: With due regard to LockOn's default Mission settings as mentioned, ie Summer, 12H00, Vis Range etc at default - which screenie tends to be 'Realistic' in the circumstances, ie First (Less Bright) or Second (More Bright) or is it somewhere in between? @Graywolf - I've tried playing around with that setting and a coupla others and cannot seem to get my system any Brighter than the screenie from the Cockpit view. And we're both using Yeni's tweak on an identical clean install. Only difference is Vid Cards. If someone wants to attempt a test, herewith Test Mission. Upon spawning in Cockpit all that is done is to immediately reduce the AoA to 0, hit pause and then capture a screenshot as above demonstrating the HUD view. Would be appreciated if we can get a coupla comparisons to attempt to get to the bottom of this - atm I cannot help but wonder if it's the Vid Cards and their inherent differences......... 159th_Viper Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 my one looks like this: Aye - with a HUD perspective similar to yours, here is mine: Definitely leaning more towards your capture, Kuky - not as Bright. IIRC you're running ATI, right? Would anyone with a NVidia card, and if possible more specifically a GeForce 8800gt (Popeye's card) take a screenshot as per the above and post it for comparison - would be appreciated. Kaufi Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 my one looks like this (VGA is ATI HD4870) @Kuky, which HUD-MOD you use ? I have found only this? Your HUD looks better. Kuky Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I'm using my own HUD modification :) (MiG-29 / Su-27 / Su-33) 1. Download this file and place it in ...LockOn/Bazar/World folder 2. Edit your Graphics.cfg file and add this line: TextureCollections { highFolder = ".\\Bazar\\TempTextures\\"; common = ".\\Bazar\\World\\SU27-MiG29-HUD-Reflection.cdds"; ... } No longer active in DCS...
Kuky Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) On a side note, if anyone is interested, I was wondering if this HDR mod actually decreases performance so I just did a quick test and found it actually does have a negative impact on framerate. In exact same mission (before the mission is started and I am looking from cockpit) without the HDR mod I got 26.5 FPS and with the HDR mod I got 23 FPS. EDIT: without AA and AF (previous "test" was with 8xAA and 16xAF which I run normally use)... this time without HDR mod I got 27.7 FPS and with HDR mod I got 26.9 FPS ... obvously lot less of performance hit ... I bet if I had resolution lower it would make even less, if not any performance hit. Edited October 5, 2008 by Kuky No longer active in DCS...

Majesco Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Ooohhhh Kuky, i installed your HUD Reflection Mod but it doesn't work to me, nothing has changed on the HUD
Kuky Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 (edited) Ooohhhh Kuky, i installed your HUD Reflection Mod but it doesn't work to me, nothing has changed on the HUD Make sure the line you're suposed to add to Graphics.cfg file is on top above other lines specifying path to .cdds texture sets. Also what aircraft you're trying to use it on as it's suposed to work on russian fighters only. i agree with you, the HDR mod does not influence on framerate but the HDR mod is not perfect, i can't go back to the game after Alt-Tab out to Windows Thx for the mod Nice HUD :D Did you take effects from the HUD of Su-25 ? Actually it does have effect on framerate but more when using high graphics settings (high Resolution/textureQulity/AA/AF) but to very little effect without those, and yes I "borrowed" and changed a bit the texture of a Su-25A HUD :) Edited October 6, 2008 by Kuky No longer active in DCS...
Majesco Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Make sure the line you're suposed to add to Graphics.cfg file is on top above other lines specifying path to .cdds texture sets. Also what aircraft you're trying to use it on as it's suposed to work on russian fighters only. of course, i know this I made your .cdds file as an addon with ModMan 6. As you know, ModMan 6 will automatically add the command line to Graphics.cfg each time something in .CDDS format was installed without any text as we did with the old ModMan 5.00.12 After the "HUD Reflection Mod" installed, i checked Graphics.cfg again and found the command lines "common = ".\\Bazar\\World\\SU27-MiG29-HUD-Reflection.cdds"; of HUD Refl Mod was automatically added to the correct position (above other lines) but in game it still looks like default HUD, nothing's changed on the HUD of Su-27/ MiG-29
