GregP Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Just to avoid any duplication of effort, we plan to release the English DCS GUI manual next week and the Ka-50 Flight Manual PDF version this time next month. Thanks Wags, but there's no duplication of effort to worry about, I don't think: if I can rally these guys to it, I think we could knock out an ugly but functional FM translation within a week. :)
nscode Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 A robot translated flight manual gives me shivers... even if it's just a game :D Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
MAThrasher Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Thanks for the manual annoucement Wags! I will anxiously await... Windows 11, GPU: RTX-4090, Ram: 32gb, CPU: 12700k, Headset: Varjo Aero

Cowboy10uk Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Y'know, guys, in my opinion Babelish does a better translation (albeit nowhere near perfect, of course) than Google Translation. What if we broke up the translation between us? If there are 20 of us willing to work on it, that'd be 18-19 pages each: you translate, section by section, each page of your allotted part of the manual, then create a Word doc with a 1-to-1 page correspondence. Then all assembled, we'd have the Russian original manual and a page-for-page English translation. Why not try it? I've just done this for the first two pages of the Table of Contents, cleaned it up a bit, and uploaded it here, took me less than 10 mins: http://www.box.net/shared/0fmjeien6o Hey Greg, Yep im up for that, I think the basic babelish does 50 words max, So we break it up into 50 words segments then away we go, Though can we get it done in the 4 weeks, Before the real one comes out :D, as you can see mine translated some, Just dosnt make much sense :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Fighter pilots make movies, Attack pilots make history, Helicopter pilots make heros. :pilotfly: Corsair 570x Crystal Case, Intel 8700K O/clocked to 4.8ghz, 32GB Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHZ Ram, 2 x 1TB M2 drives, 2 x 4TB Hard Drives, Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW, Maximus x Hero MB, H150i Cooler, 6 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans And a bloody awful Pilot
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 This is incredible manual. This is a new standard in PC flight simulations. And I can read some of it as is!! Thermaltake Kandalf LCS | Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R | Etasis ET750 (850W Max) | i7-920 OC to 4.0 GHz | Gigabyte HD5850 | OCZ Gold 6GB DDR3 2000 | 2 X 30GB OCZ Vertex SSD in RAID 0 | ASUS VW266H 25.5" | LG Blue Ray 10X burner | TIR 5 | Saitek X-52 Pro | Logitech G930 | Saitek Pro flight rudder pedals | Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Renato71 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I think that a reference about 500-some page manual is about English version of the manual. If you compare Russian one with HOTAS pages, you will see that chapter numbers for HOTAS do not match. This Russian part covers Ka-50 only, like Flying manual. The rest could be about the game itself (Quick start). I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. Also selling Suncom F-15E Talon HOTAS with MIDI connectors, several sets. Contact via PM.

The geek factor alone seemed like enough motivation to at least propose it. :) Edited October 17, 2008 by GregP

-Skipper- Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 K, now you've tempted me. I never thought about the aspect of having an English manual to go off of while using the Russian cockpit. :joystick: In fact, this is what I assumed we would see anyway. The fact that the cockpit seems to be almost totally English-affied in Wags's PNs is really amazing. But it is an advantange I did not count on having... The panels are the same, the operations and procedures are the same, the flight-dynamics are the same. They just have different labels from what you would expect from the manual. Equally if you see in the English manual "push key x and y will appear on the HUD", it takes only a little time until you get used to the Russian counterpart. I agree that the linear way they chose for the release is the easier way, but it most surely is not the most effective way. On a personal note adding to this: The two game companies I worked with so far, always sent betas to the raters, so the final could be released globally within 2 weeks apart at maximum. ;) But that may be just my perception.
