The situation degrades around the Valley Forge....

Mission 5 playthrough in VR.

Be aware....the mission happens in the dark, not much to see outside the window.

Oh, that nasty surprise at the end of the mission.... I was literally shaking at the end.

Was it supposed to be that 2 was being so close in front of me during the recovery? I tried to be on time, but might have missed it by roughly a minute, which would bring him in front of me. I was genuinely surprised to see a plane in front of me, even so I wasn't able to tell how close he was, with losing the depth perception in the dark.

That's handled by the core DCS AI, I have no control over this in the mission editor.

Thought so, since it wasn't the first time that happens to me.

All in all, for "just" being a movie campaign, I'm very happy. Even so there was not much shooting until now, which will undoubtedly change, I never felt bored, even so I can imagine that the missions are a little long for the casual player. Good thing you tell early if the mission is completed.

Thank you for your great work. A pity that you are not a Tomcat exclusive content developer, since I would love to see more F-14 campaigns developed by you. For your other campaigns, I'm most probably not flying on the respective airframes enough to enjoy them. We will see, maybe I park my Tomcat for a while?

Spoiler

I get to the point where the hornets go to engage a destroyer.... the helos just circle....  nothing happens.    What is the deal?   My hud never fails either for some reason.  Is this campaign not compatible with 2.7.2?

There's a new bug that prevents the Hornets from taking off in the first place, they just crash after launch. That's why they never attack the destroyer. ED is working on a fix.

Just checked with an other Campaign "Operation Pontus" There the first two Hornets take off from the carrier and nearly fall into the water, but they can recover and are getting into air.

The next Hornets starting, are taking off normaly, as I would say.

Sure there is a bug, but it seems that also how the takeoff is scripted, it makes a difference if the Hornets are falling into the sea or not.

Well you guys are saving me some time, I'm playing the mission right now and just noticed while sneaking in the F2 view that the hornets weren't there anymore

Yes, unfortunately I stopped playing all F/A-18 Campaigns until this bug has been resolved.   😞

Any way to have a Sticky with known bugs or other info such as this dealbreaker with the patches? I just wasted 3 hours of my life circling above the Perry, I figured something was wrong when the Hornets used 1,5 hours before doing their task, and when I was bingo I was alone in the whole world...

Just did this one and was on station over the ship forever and the mission never progressed. Time accelerated until it was completely out of fuel- no event

in the first place putting a trigger related to AI behaviour is not a good idea knowing how ED AI behaviour is usually hazardous !

🤔

lol, how do you expect a single player mission to be set up then? 😄 You can’t anticipate such glitches, like ‘what if the ai will keep crashing on takeoff?’ I can only do my job assuming that all tools I use work correctly.

but yes, it’s super hazardous, I agree. This is one of the most challenging parts of making a campaign.

No offense Mr ! 😃 For the record that's the third time i replay this campaign, because it's such a nice work, i enjoy it !

I was just saying that MAYBE a time based trigger would have been safer....but you're the pro, and once more, thanks for this amazing work, full of funny ideas !👍

I just re-tested the mission in closed beta, looks like ED has fixed the Hornet crash bug, and the mission is working again. I also implemented a safeguard trigger in case they would ever crash again. Just hang in there until the next update.

Is it possible for you to post the mission file here so we can replace it manually until the next OB patch (which is next week right?)

Isn't there a patch tomorrow? Not sure what's in it though.

I was half joking, because I see your point.  I never trust an AI to perform its task. E.g. Later in the mission the trigger is not linked to the destroyer being sunk, because that could break any time. But a simple takeoff was something I thought I could rely on. All these ‘what if’-s just tesult in exponentially more lines of triggers.
