Question for ED. Separate The liveries from the game ?

Recommended Posts

Why ?
1. My liveries is 38 Gb that is a lot of space for just pretty planes 🙂
2. Not the biggest content creator so I'll never use 90% of them.
3. It is a non essential thing for game play ?

Just my 2 cents 🙂

What i think they mean is put all the official liveries in an online repository, or something like that, and allow as optional downloads.

Wouldn't be a bad idea as with all the new modules and terrains we are seeing these days it is getting difficult to juggle the old HD space. Anythnig that saves me 25-30gb of space is welcome any day

It is not about separation, it is about hd space.

Just upgrade your disk and problem solved 🙂

But you have a pretty high end PC, just your HOTAS costs 5-6 times what a 1 TB SSD would ... you don't need to be a millonaire to afford a 100 dollar unit.

Besides, worrying for 40 GB means that your drive is already getting small and saving livery space is only postponing the inevitable upgrade.

Waste not, want not as they say...

It's a valid idea which I think ED should consider for sure. For people who do not suffer this problem, just keep the liveries installed. Simples

Besides, OP probably re-mortgaged to pay for the flight controls so may not want to invest further in hardware 😆 😉

You sir, are on point 🙂
Hotas was bought maaany years ago 🙂
Current install is 181 Gb, so 38Gb is a lot in my book. I will deduct 1 Gb for self installed 3rd party liveries.

Drawback could be maintenance on ED side and increase in user error.

But I hope ED will have an internal talk about this 🙂
Thx for the responses 🙂

+1. I like the idea and I've expressed it in other threads as well. As someone who has no interest in the early Cold War era and minimal interest in WW2, I'd prefer to just save bandwidth and storage and not download anything more than the default livery for every such module.

... Hell, they could even start to make extra cash with selling optional livery DLC.

People don't want to spend on upgrading their disks, why would they want to spend paying for liveries?

I'm reminded of a guy who posted couple years ago, he went out and bought a $2000-2500 prebuilt PC.... then threw a wild eyed fit that his 25yo joystick kept in the attic wouldn't work and he REFUSED to buy even a $50 replacement because it's too expensive.

Priorities. Some people just suck at them.

Seriously, this isn't a cheap hobby, but harddrives are literally the cheapest component in your entire damn case next to the fans.

SK hynix Gold S31 SATA Gen3 2.5 inch Internal SSD | SSD 500GB | 500GB SATA | Up to 560MB/S | Solid State Drive | Compact 2.5' SSD Form Factor SK hynix SSD | Internal Solid State Drive | SATA SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SK5BNM1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_G7SJYJWZMQ8M69JC657B?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

That's $50 for a 500gb sata SSD. It's less than the cost of most modules on sale. Buy it. Plug it in. Put DCS on it. Even as they add maps and modules, it will be a while before you ''fill it up''. I have everything. Literally everything. And it's less than 250gb, AND that's with me having some mods, too.

  *Builds expensive PC*

  *Buys expensive HOTAS*

  *Buys expensive game*

  *Sees harddrive*

Ok so...

1) Not everybody will have disposable income at every stage in their lives. This isn't ED's problem but it would be nice to know they care about the "little guys".

2) Why would you argue against this idea if it literally will not stop you from keeping all liveries installed on your hard drive but enable others to have a more flexible experience?

3) There is a limit to how many hard drives you can physically fit on a system, realistically. So even if they are cheap, the space on them is not an infinite resource to be wasted.

4) The actual development required to enable this is absolutely minimal when they have all of the resources at their disposal already.

5) That's a $50 module sale ED just lost because you had to go buy a hard drive instead...

That's my 2 cents.

Also...

Wtaf would you voluntarily suggest the most cancerous form of monetisation afflicting this industry? It's not being a ''hero'' finding them more ways to take your money, it's being a chump.

It is a forum, there's no need for personal insults. You lose any argument by default when you stoop to that level.

That's not anybody else's problem and is a reality for literally everyone on the planet. PC gamers occasionally needing hardware upgrades is a reality. This in the scope of upgrades, is of negligible significance.

I don't care about downloading liveries separately, that's fine. The point is out of all the components in his relatively expensive system... that's the cheapest and easiest to expand by a very, very large margin.

A 'theoretical' limit, yes. In practice, especially with the small SSDs, you can fit multiple drives extremely easily, even if there ISN'T a mounting point, double sided stick tape is more than sufficient. If he's complaining about harddrive space, he's unlikely to be the type with a whole series of drives, so this isn't really relevant.

True enough, but I didn't comment on allowing or not separate downloads, only that complaining about harddrive space is just silly in this day and age. $50 will get a modest SSD or a multi-terrabyte platter drive.

..... no, that's not how the real world works, it's no different than any other upgrade. Buying a GPU is not "ED missing out on 8 module sales". Filling up your drives until you're nitpicking over liveries means you either need to reorganise yourself or... buy another drive.

I didn't insult him specifically, though it was clearly taken that way. I dissed microtransactions and that I consider the folks around here constantly spitballing monetisation schemes for ED's marketing department are chumps. Microtransactions are a garbage reprehensible form of monetisation. What companies like EA are reviled for is bad here, too.
