tsgucci Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 (edited) WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Few weeks ago I have finished the campaign. In a nutshell this campaign set a new standard! The missions are created with great attention to details, the promised 80's feeling is absolutely there. Finally a campaign where carrier operations are a must! To be honest when I started with the mission one I was shocked a littlebit. Total darkness, case III, and AAR!? I thought if all missions will be like this, I gonna have problems. I do not have problem with CaseIII or AAR in general, just I think in DCS the night operations needs a little bit finetuning (tanker position lights etc.) Anyway the rest of the missions were fantastic. The briefing, the kneeboards were informative enough and I did not have to guess anytime what to do exactly. As the campaign were solely flown by the F14A and resticted to A/A I was afraid the missions are going to be too monotonous but here I was wrong again, the missions were clever based on each other and diverse enough. The story is great, the characters are complex, the voices are great and matches to the characters. This is where this campaign really excels. The optional listenable "radio shows" from the 80's is a great idea, never seen this before. The pop-up pictures during the missions like the mission success in the 80's videogame fonts is an other eyecandy. Throughout the whole campaign I had a lot of fun. Maybe 2 mission I had to re-start because of some AI bug. For total warnerds maybe the story is a littlebit too "unrealistic" or "arcadelike" (like attacking fleeing submarine crew, gunning down the main villain is actually warcrime) but hell to that, I had a lot of fun. And actually had a lot of laugh, the jokes the references to movies were great (maybe the later one was a little bit too much). So again, thank you very much for the great campaign! Really enjoyed it. If you ever come up with a new campaign to any plane I fly, I will be on the first day customerlist for sure. I would love to see such a campaign for the F14B and what is really a big need is multiplayer campaign! Thanks! Stay safe! Hooooya! Edited August 14, 2021 by tsgucci 1
Reflected Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 HEy, thanks so much for the feedback, I'm really happy that you had fun playing Fear the Bones. I knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm happy to hear there are like-minded players Go give Zone 5 a try, that's the other end of the spectrum - nothing Hollywood about it, but a realistic reproduction of an 80s training det. It will challenge you a lot more than FTB. Thanks again for the support! Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Lt_Jaeger Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 I agree with OP in all regards, especially in the last remark, you NEED to do a F-14 B campaign. So get on it

unlikely_spider Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 (edited) Finished! I really enjoyed this campaign. I managed to get a handful of air-to-air kills in dogfight scenarios with the Sparrow despite the F-14A's engines and I not getting along very well. The creative ending was cool and I enjoyed the different personalities expressed in the voice-overs. Thanks Reflected - campaigns like this are exactly why I am a DCS customer. Gretsch_Man Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 I also just finished the campaign. Overall, it was a great experience! Perhaps the best campaign in DCS I've played so far. But I agree with tsgucci that the first mission was indeed a bit of a shocker. I initially thought this campaign is going to be a chore heavy, trigger hunting sort of adventure. Boy, was I wrong. What followed was just, for the most part, entertainment of the highest level. Only mission 11 was a bit too long for my liking (which doesn't mean that mission was bad, far from it!). By the way, I really appreciated that with each mission briefing comes an estimated playing time. This is very helpful to assess whether there is still enough time for another mission before calling it a day. This is a campaign I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who wants to see some action in the F14A. I really hope to see more campaigns of this kind in DCS! Great job, Reflected! 1
