Right after switching the ground texture jitters for a moment before becoming stable. You can sometimes also notice a jitter when in mission editor with texture overlay on and zooming in. It's more noticeable in 3d though. To reproduce place several ground units in the ME in different parts of the map. Load in as spectator and go through them with F7. I think that you are not seen jittering ... you are seeing the load of the texto from low res to high res... when you change from areas you move directly to a point and the texture of the ground is lowres and then start to increase the level of detail... the "stabilization" is when you reach the HD texture from the ground.
willow Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Is there a good way to stop things from loading right as you get to them. Its kinda off putting seeing everything load right in front of me. Load distance is set to medium or more in vr. Not a big deal in 2d but with a quest 2 maybe all vr its an issue. Maybe its hardware but running a 3080 10-850k and 64gb ram and not even maxing the res on the quest. Thanks in advance if anyone has any insight with quest 2's or things rendering right as you get to them.

I agree that, the jitter might be related to caching on a technical level (simply due to the fact, that it stabilizes after a second), but it is not just texture loading. On Caucassus i don't really notice texture loading, but get the jitter, while on other maps (PG, NTTR) texture loading is very obvious (taking over 5 seconds to fetch full detail sometimes), but there is no jitter. Again, it might still be related somehow, but even if it is, there must still be some misalignment bug between different mipmaps, because the textures jump around roughly 1 meter (in game scale). Some month ago caucassus got a slight texture revamp (now has different detail textures with more texture-only roads connecting the small towns) that was not mentioned in the patchnotes (maybe the 2.7 update). Before that update (beginning of this year) i did not see any jitter at all. I was also under the impression that jitter is stronger on sloped terrain which would also hint to some misalignment bug. twistking Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 checked again and for me it is not loading higher res textures at the time of the jitter. texture load seems instant for me on caucassus (makes sense, since the textures are repetitive), but ground texture jitter for some seconds after switching to a new ground unit without texture quality changing. can someone verify that on their system?! thanks. I tried yesterday with Caucasus and switching F7 between several ground units, some with big distance between them, and I saw nothing wrong. No jittering. Maybe post a track that shows issue for you. Eventually also the settings you use ?

I am 100% sure that i only saw it on Caucassus, HOWEVER i only really checked against Persian Gulf. Did not notice it on Marianas, NTTR, Normandy, but did not really search for it neither. I am also absolutely sure that it did not happen "last year" (can't give you a specific patch number, but last winter i did plenty of mission design on caucassus and the problem did not exist back then, as i'm quite sensible to those temporal artefacts and surely would have noticed).
