Minsky Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 There shouldn't be any VOR beacons at Northwest Field. The objects you see on satellite photos are THAAD launchers. 1 1 Dima | My DCS uploads
Northstar98 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) +1 And seeing as we don't have THAAD, it would be better if the VOR structures were removed, and replaced with a level, horizontal concrete pad. Camera positions: Western VOR: -camera 15.297458 0.195793 7.209727 -cameradir 0.864073 -0.381620 -0.328244 This should be a circular concrete pad (looks to be raised in the satellite image), with just a straight track leading to the southern taxiway/runway. I'm also fairly sure that it's misplaced too, from the centre of the pad to the nearest edge of the taxiway, I get a distance of ~114.4m in Google Earth, in DCS, the same distance is only 42m. In the spoiler below is a rough image, with trigger zones mapping out the actual position of the pad, and the track leading up to it. See the spoiler for a rough screenshot, showing the correct position and the road leading up to it. Spoiler Eastern VOR: -camera 15.655529 0.259540 8.059221 -cameradir 0.585228 -0.508913 -0.631281 Like the above, this should be a concrete pad, the shape of the track looks correct (though has some disparities with RL). The geometry also needs checking at the eastern site, according to Google Earth and this topographic map, the western site should be at an elevation of 151/154m (for the 2 sources respectively), and the eastern site 152m/154m (again, respectively). In DCS the western site is at an elevation of 159m and the eastern site 146m. The eastern side seems to be in a large ditch that doesn't exist IRL, and there's quite an angular hill at -camera 15.669907 0.167592 7.894370 -cameradir 0.972082 -0.231245 -0.039786. EDIT: What I described above as tracks, are paved IRL, whereas in DCS, they are all dirt tracks Edited October 21, 2021 by Northstar98 formatting Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Recoil16 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Good catch. Everybody said: "That's impossible!" Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.
