Max speeds achieved and settings used

I can maintain 320, max revs and boost, aircraft trimmed, no ammo / stores and 25% fuel load. “Tree top” height

2850 rpm +10 boost, Radiator flaps closed and a clean airframe in a 30 deg dive from 10,000ft.

 

I got to Approx. 500 mph, I say Approx. because the pointer was way past the max reading of 480 on the gauge. I think it could have easily gone faster but I didn't want to push it as I wanted to practice landings! Not sure how much fuel I had as my eyes were glued to the ASI and the windscreen at the time! lol. I was surprised as to how easily it pulled out no buffet or wing flapping, it was smooth. Maybe next time I'll try for the full go and see what happens...

Level flight tops speed is different story then 30 degree dive.

50~60% fuel plus full gun load and two 250kg bombs in the bomb bay, 23C 29.53, treetop level, rad flaps closed, 3000/+12 gives me 290. Even after dumping the bombs I can't break 300. I should try pushing her up to +16 or +18 boost.

You're absolutely right! however the thread title is quote "Max Speeds Achieved and Settings Used"....absolutely nothing there about what the flight regime has to be at the time. So I thought I would add a bit of fun to the thread and report what I had seen in a dive....you know FUN, remember that?!

OAT -1C, 350 mph IAS.

 

OAT 16C, 340 mph IAS.

I have seen "past pegged" (500'ish), too. The bomb-doors do work and so does the bomb-release at that speed. l@azerFlakl will track and hit precisely nonetheless.

I believe I have seen 335 at "full stereo".

Closing the rads, perfect trim etc can get you 340 S&L.  
 

coming in at 1000’ and 340, with a very gentle ease down to 300’ can get you 350 S&L, but then slowly drops back to 340

 

Obviously not going to keep going for long at 3000rpm / +18 and closed rads though…!

50% fuel, closed radiators, no bombs, std atmosphere. Could not get it to 340 mph over the water at 18 boost. I started at 330 mph after a shallow dive, so I wouldn’t cook the engines before getting up to speed. Just under 340 on the dial - maybe with better trim I could have made it to 340.

 

That’s pretty slow. Our FB.VI in clean configuration should do around 350 mph on the deck.
