I don't know if I just got used to it or what, but I remember the burble effect being much more noticeable when it was introduced earlier this year. 
Is it still there or has it been silently removed?

It very much still is a thing. Simply look at the VSI when in the groove and on the ball, you'll get an updraft followed by a downdraft and some shake closer to the boat.
