FrostLaufeyson Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 I spent an afternoon testing the delay fuzes of many bombs, because the manual did not specify how long they will delay, and I haven't seen much discussion about this issue on the Internet. My original intention was to use this feature to bomb targets in the forest, but the only effective bomb, the laser-guided bomb, would stick to the tree and explode on the tree. In my trk file, I threw four GBU-16s, which is the operation in the official demo video. Finally, I threw a Mk83, which exploded at the moment of impact. This is different from other people's videos. I tested GBU-10, GBU-12, GBU-16, GBU-31(V)4/B, GBU-38, Mk-82, Mk-83, Mk-84, AGM-65E, AGM-65F. Only the delay options of 10, 12, and 16 are valid, and they are all laser-guided bombs. The following video is an officially released demo video, which can be watched at 3:37. GBU-16 has a significant delayed explosion. The following video was uploaded by Grim Reapers, who threw an Mk-83 with a delay fuze through AV8B. It can be seen from 3:35 that the bomb exploded after it penetrated the ground. But my Mk-83 does not work. So here I have two questions 1. A bomb with a delay fuze can penetrate the ground, but why can't it penetrate a tree? 2. Why can the AV8B bomb use a delayed fuze, but the F18 bomb can't? delay fuze.trk 1
FrostLaufeyson Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) I conducted some tests again, and I found that if you want unguided bombs to delay the explosion, MFUZ must be set to OFF. This is my mistake. Now it seems that the fuzes of JDAM and Maverick have such a problem, I guess it is caused by the lack of implementation of the function. There is no problem with other weapons. But the problem of bombs not being able to penetrate the trees affected my attack on targets in the forest. This means that even if you bomb with a lot of bombs, the target will be intact because of the protection of the trees. And DCS has almost no simulation of explosive sputtering. Edit: The delay fuze of AGM-62 and AGM-154C has no effect as well. It seems that all the new toys prepared for F18 have not been finished. Edited December 21, 2021 by FrostLaufeyson 1
FrostLaufeyson Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 What makes me very dissatisfied is that the penetration bombs (like GBU-31(V)4/B) will explode in an instant. In addition, even after a laser-guided bomb passes through a tree, its speed will drop sharply due to a "passing" determination, and it will eventually explode in the air. This makes it harmless to the tank. GBU31.trk High speed GBU10.trk
