That's always a good idea. Read the manual that comes with the plane. Then read Chuck's manual. Do all the training missions and watch all of Wag's tutorials. You won't have many questions after that.

something i did not see anyone mention. the F16 was meant as an export fighter too. it needed to be a little less sophisticated for foreign air forces to use and maintain. think of it as a replacement for all the F5s that were exported.

Viper has a clever layout stemming from the fact that you'll be holding the sidestick most of the time during the flight. So the right side only includes stuff you flip once at startup, together with all the engine and fuel gauges. Whatever you need to reach during the flight is on the left, for example the autopilot, arm panel, radios, CMS, RWR,... Everything is where it needs to be.

While the hornet looks like you threw a box full of butons, switches and dials into the cockpit and they land all over the place. It makes no sense to me. Together with those six 80s retro calculator lines on the upfront numberpad panel. Viper has a clever little DED and everything is clearly readable there.

I'll give the Hornet props for being an easier to read cockpit than the Viper.

Ha, I almost came back to edit the post to say down but wasn't sure. I'll fix it now.

I tend to use "aft" as well because sometimes "down" is confused with "depress".  So a 5-way hat would be Forward, Aft, Left, Right, and Down/Depress.
