Hi all.

When I designate a target in the tgp and have the mav seeker set to tgp the mav is always just off target so I can’t get a lock.

Thoughts? Thanks.

So far I've found making TGP SPI and slaving all to SPI to be very precise with the Maverick.

Can you upload a short track (preferred) or video showcasing the problem?

make mav soi, then you have to slew it to the target. 98% of the time the tgp only gets the mav to look at the target, it cant target it specifically.

Thats realistic. In the real jet boresights are not perfect, although in DCS you can get away with it pretty often. Slave all to SPI gets you close but not 100% of the way there. You'd still have to slew the maverick onto the target to get it to lock on independent of the TGP.

Yup tms fwd short to designate target with tgp as soi, then tms fwd long to make that point spi, then china hat fwd long to slave all sensors to spi, then make mav page soi, then tms fwd short to lock with mav seeker

This may sound like nitpicking, but it's all in the details.

With TGP as SOI, TMS Forward Short does not designate a target. It simply toggles the TGP's tracking mode (area, point, or inertial). With a stationary target, there's no need to go to point track for example, and with a moving target, it's probably fairly obvious that area track is of little use. 😉

You probably mean the right thing, but the words are not exactly the correct description. TMS Forward Long with TGP as SOI doesn't designate the point as SPI that the TGP is looking at. It actually means "where ever the TGP looks will be my SPI, until another sensor designates the SPI".

It's a common misunderstanding that TMS Forward Long designates the current TGP spot as SPI -- on the contrary, the SPI will now slew with the TGP. And it's pretty easy to screw up targeting over and over again when one gets this concept wrong, which is why I think it's important everyone understands it. 👍

Lol I was just corrected on that on another post. I didn’t realize it made the tgp itself spi, honestly thought it was just the point itself, like using the hmd or hud cursor!  I’m used to the f-16 and 18 where spi is pretty much automatic for everything you do. I was so caught up with having to learn to manually designate spi points I just assumed that you had to do it for everything, every time… I was wrong .. in a good way.. that makes life so much easier! Lol

and tms up short to designate is habit from f16 lol I’m used to tms up short =designate/point track/ initiate auto handoff and tms right to switch to area. Still breaking that one. I cant tell you how many markpoints I’ve placed trying to switch to area track lol
