Just as the title says. As you will see in the trk, boxing LTWS allows HAFU symbology to be displayed for a radar only MSI trackfile.

However, LTWS latent being the key word, is actually supposed to be the filter that is applied when the option is boxed.

"Selection of the LTWS option (LTWS boxed) causes HAFU symbology associated with radar only MSI trackfiles not to be displayed. This allows for better viewing of the radar raw hits on the RWS display" -742-100

With this, LTWS should not initialize boxed.

@BIGNEWY I will PM you the full page.
Edit: PM sent. Important note, CONFIG/IDENT 92A has a completely different LTWS function where target processing is changed. I believe this is where the initial confusion/DCS implementation stems from.

Check the behavior in WP 011 03 of the -742 for the LTWS behavior for 15C.
- LTWS should be initially boxed.
- HAFUs should not be displayed for radar-only MSI trackfiles.
- The raw hit or ACQ point cue should be the only indicator for radar-only MSI trackfiles.
- HAFUs should be displayed for radar-only MSI trackfiles when under the TDC cursor.

And HAFUs should be displayed for trackfiles that have both radar and another MSI contribution, with LTWS boxed, which is not the case right now.

It's mentioned above, but just to emphasize, with LTWS boxed, the radar will display only raw hits for radar-only trackfiles, unless the TDC is on them or they're under AMRAAM attack. HAFUs are always displayed for trackfiles with radar+MSI trackfiles (and if MSI is boxed, non-radar MSI trackfiles).

With LTWS unboxed, HAFUs are displayed also for radar-only MSI trackfiles (just the top HAFU part, with the radar contribution circle).

In both cases, the LTWS option is merely a display option. TWS processing and trackfile creation still happens and the pilot-radar interaction remains the same. Placing the TDC over a trackfile should always reveal its MSI info and you should always be able to designate it as L&S without going to STT.
