S. Low Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 I’m using my Xbox one controller as my Tedac controller. However, i can’t get DCS to recognize the Left and Right triggers, or the left stick, as buttons instead of axes. Any ideas on what program I could use to change the controller logic to buttons instead of axes?

Joystick Gremlin detects the triggers as a single analog axis unfortunately. You can't use it in scenario where you have to pull both triggers at the same time. I use ReWASD instead. On the plus side it also supports the additional paddles on the Xbox Elite controllers as separate buttons. 2
Floyd1212 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 I use Joystick Gremlin for that. I tried getting the axis to register as 1st detent from 0% to 90%, then second detent from 90% to 100% for the laser, but it seemed like there is not enough pull on the trigger to really be useful. I ended up going with no action until 90% and then activate second detent. 1
S. Low Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 Well I’d like to be able to have laser on one and weapons fire on the other so it sounds like I have to use ReWASD?

Maybe it depends on the controller? Or maybe there is something that changed in a recent version of Joystick Gremin?

Will check it out.

Joy2Key worked for the triggers. I set them as Insert and Delete and put weapon and laser functions on those keys. Works like a charm so far. However, setting the left joystick as keys was a nightmare as it's too sensitive so I came up with a different mapping idea. But overall the Joy2Key program is working for me thanks. 1

ReWASD do exactly what I was looking for, now I can use the trigger as throttle, nice recommendation. 1
Floyd1212 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Just to clarify, Joystick Gremlin doesn't determine how the triggers are "seen" as being one axis or two by the OS. It is the driver you use in Windows for the controller that determines this. The XINPUT driver treats the triggers as a single axis, the standard HID Device driver treats them as two axis. https://www.reddit.com/r/xbox/comments/qer8pv/xbox_controller_right_and_left_trigger_merged/

Antix70 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I got tired of messing with it and bought a Sony Dualsense controller. The triggers send both Axis AND button signal. So you could use one as an axis and the other as a button if you wanted to. Also, I had to put the left Second Detent behind the modifier as I was lofting hellfires just by fidgeting, it's very sensitive. The button signal is at the outside of the trigger axis and not the inside. A hair trigger, if you will. Putting it behind the modifier gave me a safety so to speak.

Earlier in this thread I mention how to use Joystick Gremlin to solve this problem. You can define a trigger pull from 20% to 90% to be one digital button (first detent), and 90% to 100% to be a different digital button (second detent), though I didn’t find this personally useful. There were mentions of other software that will also do the same. It sounds like your workaround of adding the modifier is working for you, but I figured I would mention this again, since it is what the thread was originally about. 1
Antix70 Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 I got tired of messing with 3rd party software to make the gamepads work. When I heard the Sony dualsense controller solves this problem by sending both axis and button signals on the triggers, it was the perfect solution.
