just got my headset today, first Impressions, not really impressed at all

11fps sitting in a map in an Apache  is not the best in the world when running a 3090TI with a 5950X and 128GB ram

I've got 90fps, it must be something wrong at your end. Are you using openVR through steamVR or openXR+Toolkit?

1) And Background processes running?

2) dcs_updater repair eventually? (Backup your Dev work :))

3) You don't need openvr_api.dll

It's all about setting up everything properly to get the kind of framerate you want.  I already posted how I got 90fps in simple missions in the other thread.  VR HMD in flightsims is basically just a dual monitor with positional tracking and fixed refresh rate.

Specter got an issue with his new Aero. My answer was related to that. Something is still wrong in his setup. Please see above.

OK

I downloaded the openxr toolkit installed that

then downloaded the OpenComposite
ran the exe and clicked switch to openxr (it then downloaded some stuff

then i open Varjo Base software and confirm i have turned off openVR

then launch SkateZilla app and click launch VR  ( i have also tried the create a DCS.exe shortcut and adding

"C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_steam_VR

DCS window comes up then crashed with crash log

checking Configure on OpenComposite there are 2 icons now

DCS and Vajo Tracking

no clue from here

Just visiting this thread as Varjo is discounted as of today. My question is still how well it works for DCS these days and it seems that it's still a bit difficult. It's 300e off but I still have to buy base stations. Do you need two for it?

Just follow my instructions on the very 1st post of this thread. Don’t use global installation, use the per-app method. You only need 1 file in the same folder as DCS.exe (openvr_api.dll which can be obtained from the attachment in this thread or from their main site)—no need to make it more complicated by using other utilities.  If you got 11 fps with OpenVR I don’t think OpenXR will be much better, so the problem lies elsewhere. With latest release of SteamVR, the avg framerate is roughly the same between the two APIs. Foveation option in OpenXR via OXRTK can help lower GPU frametime slightly but that’s pretty much it.

It’s definitely not plug and play with DCS compared to other games such as MSFS. But there’s a guide at the very first post to help with this.
One base station is needed if you place the station directly in the front or back of the headset, two is recommended for 360 degree tracking.
I’ve owned a lot of headsets (check my sig) and so far this is the only headset that gives image quality similar to a monitor—not as crisp as 4KTV but quite close.

I sure never get 90 fps in any of the DCS missions I run.  However I do love my graphics so yeah I run them fairly high. Long as I can keep above 45 fps or so it is decent for me. Really looking forward to their Motion Reprojection implementation when they get it done.

90fps? Is that in a normal mission and/or online? I didn't think 90fps was possible in the Aero.

Any clue what's the status and ETA on this? I watched VRFS guy demoing the MR at Varjo's HQ some time ago. My understanding was it's very close to release but nothing out of Varjo yet..

So I removed VB this morning and cleaned the registry with Win Optimizer

I re-installed VB
downloaded a fresh copy of both Open Composite and the openvr_api.dll file

extracted the openComposite to the 😄 drive (had this on my desktop before)
replaced the openvr_api.dll file within the openbeta\bin folder of DCS

launched VB
made sure I had both VR and XR ticked in system

opened the OpenComposite and choose Switch to OpenComposite

as soon as I do that I get the previous error I posted

OpenXR just doesn't work for me, and I have no clue why and curranty the headset on a 3090TI is useless to me as I am getting 11fp at San Carlos in the SA map or 11 at the airfields in Syria

anyone got any ideas

They are hoping for next update, so maybe Dec. if all goes well. At the least it should not be too much longer now.

Free flight missions only.  Here's the proof, I tested quite a few scenarios.  For complex missions or MP, I typically use 45 fps lock and increase the rendering resolution way up.

I think you may have to remove SteamVR and OpenXR completely, then reinstall them.  Something is seriously wrong if you only get 11 fps.

To keep things simple, just stick with getting OpenVR (SteamVR) to work for now.  Once that's done then you can try to move on to OpenXR if that's what you want to do, remember it's still a hack and not officially endorsed by ED.  There's also OpenComposite mode now, if you run OpenComposite OpenXR via SteamVR instead of the Aero.

Yesterday I just noticed that I pulled the plug out of the transfer case, where the wires from the power supply and the PC are connected, and the wire from the USB Type C connector was connected to both the helmet and the PC. But the most interesting thing is that the helmet worked perfectly for a week. It turns out that he had enough power from usb?

So what is the latest on using Open Composite/Open XR with DCS and the Aero? I gave it a whirl several weeks ago and went back to Steam VR. Worth another go now or is it even more complex than it was then? How is Foveated Rendering doing with DCS and the Aero? Is it still just a matter of copying the openvr_api dll into the DCS bin folder?

Two things, although the switching process remains the same just drag the modded api.dll file into the DCS bin folder to switch; and do DCS repair to revert back to OpenVR.

1. OpenXR with FFR causes intermittent FT spikes on my setup, so I stop using FFR with it.  I’m also using OpenVR more because Reshade makes it look so good.

2. You can use Steam OpenXR now instead of Varjo, but it goes into OpenComposite (Oculus) mode instead of OpenXR.

Ok great, thanks for the info. I may try it out again just to see how it compares now in performance. Have lost some on that end with DCS 2.8.

I've ordered a Aero and I'm trying to get a hold of some used base stations. Anyone have experience with the 1.0 vs 2.0 base stations for DCS?

I'm thinking of getting one and placing it above/in front of me. With this setup will 1.0 or 2.0 make any difference to me in DCS?

From what I've gathered the main differences between the two is that you can have more base stations connected when using 2.0 and that the 2.0 will have slightly better FOV. The former does not effect me, but will the reduced FOV on 1.0 stations be a limitation for me when checking six or the consoles below the shoulder? (Assuming I only have one base station?)

Do your best to get 2.0. version. Valve currently have the Light-house 2.0 in stock. They are cream of the crop same as your Aero.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1059570/Valve_Index_Base_Station/

You can get by ok with one for only seated play, if you can swing it highly recommend two as all around tracking is really good when set up diagnal to each other.

Thx! Will go for the 2.0. The Valve store is not available in Norway unfortunately. Only reseller here will get them in stock the 17th of dec, which is probably after my Aero arrives.

Ok IF you can wait, it will be worth it. If you can't just get one the 1.0 if that is faster for you, and change to 2.0 when you can.

I had used v1.0 basestations for a long while (since the original Vive) and had no tracking issue.  The v2.0 allows further distance between the bases.
