AI does not use wingman(s) when engaging multiple ground (map) targets.

Recommended Posts

So I setup a simple mission with a fligh of 2 F-16s equipped with LGBs. Their task was to attack 4 map objects close to each other.

What happens is that the lead AI engages each target successfully (albeit very slow and inefficient) but does not instruct its wingman to attack any of the target. As a consequence, the whole engagement takes a very long time, is very inefficient and leaves the wingman of the flight just tagging along, enjoying the view.

Please add logic for the AI wingman to effectively share the workload and do what's expected of them.

Let me know if you need a track file, but it's an easy setup in the editor.

As seeable in attached example .miz :

- It does work if the target is a group of several vehicles (leader and wingman share targets and each Viper kills 2 targets during the same time).

- With map objects, each attack task has a single target, and when 1st attack is occuring, the next one can't happen before 1st is done (tasks stand in queue in the list). So the "solution" can be to change the flight of 2 Vipers for 2 Flights of 1 viper, second following 1st, and both having 2 different map targets. (in example, each Viper attacks 2 map objects during the same time)

This has been AI flight's behavior for a long time. It's quite annoying.

They'll still do it with JDAMs, but because multiple bombs can be released in a single pass, they're much more efficient at it.

You need to include a short concise example and I can have it looked at.

Here's a super simple example. 4 trucks, 2 aircraft, 4 bombs. Lead will drop his two bombs sequentially while Two will follow behind him in formation. Then Lead will continue on the flight path ahead and leave Two to drop his two bombs by himself.

Can you please include the mission?

Sorry NineLine, I don't have it anymore. I converted the AI flight to "clients" and added a bunch of stuff since. I just noticed this when debugging my mission 😞

But as Bunny Clark said, that's sorta what I was seeing too, but in my case, lead only performed the attack while 2 was just flying along doing nothing.
