hotrod525 Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) Hello folks, The title kinda speak for itself, but i'll go into more details . In D.C.S., the "native view" / "default camera position" is known to be "kinda offset down-ward" so you can actualy see outside / trough hud and see you're instrumets inside the cockpit. This lead to be somewhat "trained" to fly the plane looking outside in the upper half of the screen as the default position somewhat force it into your brain over time. So here is the issue, the use of the JHMCS looks horribly out of place. It dosent feel natural, infact, it kinda make it less usefull than it would. If we take the Apache the impression is somewhat mitiged by the fact the default cam is a little bit more towards the nose and it dosent have a hud that conflict with, my poor brain... lol. If you try to "work this around" by forcing youre TRACKIR looking up to remove the -13/15/17 ( i honestly dont recall the difference) you lost the insight of youre cockpit ingame and it also feel weird... So, could we please have an option in the special tab to make the JHMCS to be at the same level as the HUD, PLEASE ED I'm sure there is other people out here that would also enjoy that option Edited July 17, 2022 by hotrod525 1
Bunny Clark Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 You can reset your default head position in DCS pretty easily. Just move your view to what you want to be the new default and hit RAlt+Num0 In the Hornet I always tilt the view up until the HMD cross aligns with the TVV in normal flight. Tholozor Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I did roughly the same. I realigned my default head position to be about -5° on the pitch ladder and adjusted my FOV so that I could still see a comfortable amount of the cockpit. fagulha Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 I reset my head position (VR user) with default key Num5 and then i use Cockpit Camera Move Right/Left/Up/Down/Fwd/Aft to refine my position to be properly seated. It´s the first thing i do when i start any sortie. And only then i unpause DCS and start my walkaround, climb to aircraft, etc. About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. hotrod525 Posted July 23, 2022 Author Posted July 23, 2022 The issue here is that Eagle Dynamics put the "default view" in a way where you get use to "look outside in the top half of your screen". Having the HMD in the pure center of the screen make its use very not "natural" for TrackIR user. If i was to center my default view with HUD to have HMD "level" i would see like half my top canopy and none of my DDI, not "much of a solution" IMHO. A simple option Tab would do the trick... Nor if i can find the .LUA where it set the default position of the HMD and mod it myself, wich i might if not locked behind SDK.
Ourorborus Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 This has been raised several times. resetting position works on a flat screen but not for VR. (I can't speak for TrackIR). As the angle is overidden by the angle reported by your HMD's accellerometers. The effect varies with individuals as everybody's face is different thus HMDs sit on your face at different angles. For me the JHMCS is about 6degrees too high. The only solution I have found is the wedge a small pad in the top of my HMD to tilt it down. For clarity, I refer to HMD as the physical VR HMD, and JHMCS as the in game helmet display. ED have yet to acknowledge the issue let alone fix it.
hotrod525 Posted August 4, 2022 Author Posted August 4, 2022 Hopefully they do... Anyone know where i could find the .lua and edit it ? out of curiousity... lol
Ourorborus Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 I have been looking for months with no success. There are several promising entries in various lua but none seem to work for vr as the angle just goes back to the HMD's angle.
hotrod525 Posted September 13, 2022 Author Posted September 13, 2022 I'm sorry to bring this up and tap the nail again but, does ED even acknoledge this ? If you take a F18 right now, and bring up the NVG, the NVG are center on the HUD, you light up JHMCS and then you're offset 1
hotrod525 Posted September 15, 2022 Author Posted September 15, 2022 I'm sorry to importunate but, @BIGNEWY, anything to say ? Just a small "yeah will bring this up to dev team somwehre between now and two weeks" please
CBStu Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 I agree the JHMCS needs to be fixed. Over the last 2 years there have been several threads on it. There are some techniques that can apparently be used w/ TIR to make it better. I don't see that point at all. For every other sighting/aiming/flying view, including the NVG as hotrod points out, my setup works as is. Then I try JHMCS & it is way lower then it should be. Heck since in a large portion of AIM9x use we are banking and pulling on the stick, if it were high I could see that as being a lot more acceptable. I see no reason I should go through a different view setup to make one piece of equipment work when ALL the others work fine as is. 1

hotrod525 Posted November 18, 2022 Author Posted November 18, 2022 It seems like our issue wont be address, as it's not even acknoledged. I understand, they have limited ressource, plenty of stuff to do, and so on... But it feel wrong. Anyway. We tried. Sorry folks'. 1
