Eisprinzessin Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) Hi! Has somebody worked out which throttle fits the most for the F-14? WinWing F16 or F18? I know, 2 Engines so F-18 sounds good, but i think thats not a gamechanger? So which one is more handy for the Cat? DSplayer Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 The Winwing F-18 throttle should be better imo. Good amount of switches and buttons you can use and of course you can do split throttle operations. 1 Discord: @dsplayer Setup: R7 7800X3D, 64GB 6000Mhz, Saitek/Logitech X56 HOTAS, TrackIR + TrackClipPro Resources I've Made: F-4E RWR PRF Sound Player | DCS DTC Web Editor Mods I've Made: F-14 Factory Clean Cockpit Mod | Modern F-14 Weapons Mod | Iranian F-14 Weapons Pack | F-14B Nozzle Percentage Mod + Label Fix | AIM-23 Hawk Mod for F-14
scommander2 Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 I think that left/right throttles can contol left/right engines indiviudally. If one engine is hit and I can split the control throttle without working on UI, especially in dogflight. Jackjack171 Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 I use the Super Taurus/Libra setup...it is awesome! Definitely the split F-18 throttle is what you want. DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!
Uxi Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Wouldn't trade my Virpil T-50CM v3 for anything... I am kinda undeterred in trying this 3d printed DIY. Would be hard to give up all the extra hats though. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/throttle-hotas-box Specs & Wishlist: Core i9 9900k 5.0Ghz, Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero, 64GB G.Skill Trident 3600, Asus RoG Strix 3090 OC, 2TB x Samsung Evo 970 M.2 boot. Uxi Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 For Tomcat definitely want split throttle. Need it for startup, airstart, spin recovery procedures, etc Specs & Wishlist: Core i9 9900k 5.0Ghz, Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero, 64GB G.Skill Trident 3600, Asus RoG Strix 3090 OC, 2TB x Samsung Evo 970 M.2 boot. Dragon1-1 Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 Yeah, I just saw the price on that blueprint. Looks neat, but this doesn't move anything like the Tomcat throttle, IMO this is not worth any money. IRL, the throttles can move side to side, this is unsprung, so one can, for example, select MIL and rest the throttles against the aft AB stop while being launched from the cat. They also have a fair bit more throw. Plus, hats on those designs are all the same old microswitch-based crap. Winwing hats are much better, they have quite a bit of travel, which feels great. Same with buttons, a little more overtravel than I'd have preferred, but otherwise they're awesome. You can buy the kind of button used in real aircraft (OTTO-P1), but hats are absurdly expensive, and I haven't seen a DIY one yet that would simulate them.
JupiterJoe Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 (edited) VIRPIL EU - VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle (virpil-controls.eu) I want one ...and just bought one. Watched the Grim Reapers' review and it put the hook in me. It's more beautifully engineered than the real thing. Blasphemy, I know. Eisprinzessin Posted August 15, 2022 Author Posted August 15, 2022 Okay, decided to use the WinWing F-18 Throttle and i think its nearly perfect for the cat. Specs: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K 3.20 GHz, RAM 128 GB, Win11 Home, RTX3080Ti
StevethePirate Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 (edited) Has anyone seen this from Throttletek? My guess is that it's (or will be) quite expensive compared to TM or Wingwing options: GF14 Throttle - Throttletek Edit: Saw an older thread on this throttle. Seems it was very expensive and didn't hold up. Edited August 18, 2022 by StevethePirate
