RichardG Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Sometimes autoturn to target would randomly stop working, helo would turn in opposite direction, not turn at all, etc. Then I recentered trim (trim reset), and all was well. The acumulated rudder trim error was too much for the auto-pilot to overcome, so rudder needed to be recentered. Hope this saves someone from a stroke or migrane
Slayer Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 I struggled with this alot also until I discovered that too...very frustrating when it starts to randomly turn. Auto-Hover sometimes seems to screw up turn on target also. Buznee Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 the trim reset button seems just as important as the trim button itself. Sometimes I also have issues where I'm hovering and can't get the aircraft to stay on one heading even after trimming again and again. Hit the trim reset, then hit trim again, problem solved
gnirtS Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 CTRL ENTER to view controls is very very useful - not only for that but for working out why pitch response is slow (because its trimmed half way to full already) etc. Dont really need reset with that.
nemises Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 An alternative to trim reset (which, lets be frank can kill you if you hit it at the wrong time ;) ) , is to use ctrl-enter to show your input settings. This brings up a small gui that shows you where all the aircraft controls are currently (regardless of where your physical HOTAS / rudders are) , so will give you a good representation of what trim forces are at play. What I normally do is flick that on, and manually re center / retrim to center my rudders if they get out of whack...that way I don't have to ride a bucking bronco for a few seconds after I hit trim-reset (which is not a real function in the KA50 anyways)
Niehorst Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 If youre in AUTOHOVER: deactivate the auto-function, kick the pedals to your desired heading and reactivate it! The Auto-Hover Function tries to keep the aircraft hovering in its current postition. THAT INCLUDES THE HEADING! The auto-turn-to target works! it never turned me away from my target, but: If the helicopter has such a feature, why does it not really get the target right in front of the helicopters nose??? I mean in a hover this function should be able to turn as long as your Vikhr Symbol is placed over the target and youre able to fire. You always have to turn by yourself a little bit... Brenhen Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Niehorst, I read somewhere else, and it made sense once I did, that this feature is for safety on the real helicopter. It requires the pilot to make an extra input to fire a missile, reducing the chances that a missile is fired accidently.
Frederf Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Am I correct in saying that turn-to-target only works in auto hover mode?
Zakk Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Am I correct in saying that turn-to-target only works in auto hover mode? No and this can be a real problem while flying and using Schval while searching for targets so I would advise using the TTT in Auto-Hover only. Coffin Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 (edited) must be doing things wrong with the switches. All Autopilot switches on or Heading off, but pressing AutoTurnOnTarget(Q) won't do the trick yet. (tried in quick action, so switches all set). What would be needed to have it working ? What needs to be set ? It's not the trim. It's neutral, hovering, whatever...tried it all. ah wait..it is easy flight ?? Edited January 19, 2009 by Coffin

Agreed. I can't fly without it on anymore. I guess if you have rudder pedals you can tell where they're trimmed by the position of your feet. As a side note, does anyone know if you can make the view controls box a little less obtrusive? Either more transparant, smaller or another colour. FedEx Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 What i have notice if your aircraft is trim in the oposite direction of where you trying to turn with TTT it will fail, things I look at before I enguage a target, that Im slow enught to hard manuver, not over trim a pilot once told me, don't get used to letting the trim fly your plane, trim is there to release presure of the stick not to fly the plane. Like someone mention, use "Ctrl Enter" to look at your rudder input and see the forces involved in the simulator. You will notice that when your start turning is ither the trim did not catch and now your nose is going back to the original heding or your over trim already. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Before you warn me, make sure you have help first and succeded in doing so.
