Many people in reddit dcs related forums, followed my advice to set both parameters to 0. Which lowered their ram and even Vram usage drastically and provided more resources to be available in their system for multiplayer and VR. 

I personally removed the full statement from the lua file and it has the same effect as setting the parameters to 0. It has been like that in my system for at least 5 months now. 

Since this is a sitting sim and max speed in game is almost limited by reality and we have huge game assets but still enough bandwidth for on time delivery to render pipeline: can you reconsider this setting and remove it if it is not necessary. It happens to not break anything in game but looks like it is the problem.

Did you check if the lua precache tweak has a different effect than the precache slider in the game clients graphics setting menu?
I would suspect that those do the same. I always advice people to set precache (in the options) as low as they can get away with. Only when still running DCS from an HDD did i experience occasional stutter with low precache settings.

Yes this is totally different. That slider in the setting is preload radius it loads the terrain and world objects on that terrain to your RAM. With SSD's we do not actually need it but if you have huge amount of ram why not. 

This precaching loads active game assets too and since it is graphical cache it also uses VRAM. I cannot fly Apache without this mod in my current settings for example. No matter what preload radius I set in the slider. 

For example there is an allied F-16 flying 100 miles away which you are capable of seeing it via external cam if you want, this precaching logic already loads that and it's surroundings to be able to render it instantly if you ever want to switch to external cam and go looking for it. 

You will immediately see the effect if you now apply the mod and start spamming f2 cameras. It will switch to the camera but model textures will come 1/3 of a second later and in coming 2 seconds all ground textures will be loaded in your view. 

It is only good for content creators but you do not need that resource hog while you are actually flying.

I concur, I also have my eye set on several modules that I would like to dip my toe with, but why would i bother to throw good money after bad, when ED continues to ignore fundamental & core performance issues to literally waste their time on bringing us ...... clouds,,,,,,,, yes v2.8  is all about clouds......

i could give less than a flying rats ass hat about clouds. try making some changes to the real underlying issues & stop ignoring the pleas from your community to improve the core engine.

just how much more potential revenue is ED squandering by ignoring the simple fact that users are either put on hold, waiting for some/any improvement or simply opting away from DCS & leaving altogether. smarten up ED.

I'd love to see evidence of this work.

Meanwhile there are hundreds over bugs older than 2 years that remain ignored.

NS430 (a paid module) is broken on the Caucuses map (5 years).

Mi8 hardpoints bug was carried forward from DCS version 1.x and still remains ignored.

ED have only proven to me that they can not competently triage bugs and treat paying customers like paying customers.

I love how it's always xxx can't be fixed because that is a task for a team working on some other unimportant rubbish, or it isn't related to the team working on this.

Dear @draconus, @v81, @nthere,

I'm new in DCS forums so I do not know how things run here but I have seen ED shutting down topics because of such discussions. I beg you, please do not to bring this topic to that point that it gets locked. 

Let's stay on the topic. We know DCS needs lots of improvement in many aspects but main point of my post is to give huge improvement for least amount of work. This topic is not the place to discuss it. I don't wish this to get lost.

No... Just no.

You don't get away with making this about me posting a bug report in the wrong place. This is concern about EDs lost direction where they're talking about clouds and other things no one cares about.... yet again.

Multiple bug reports dating back to DSC v 1.4 (correction, DCS v 1.2.7) exist for the Mi8 issue.

One point two.... Let that sink in.

Back then multiplayer and single player were separate executables.

8 years, coming on 9 if I recall.

Bugs properly reported, tracks, screen shots, video, detail.

This is one example of hundreds.

I have no interest in new clouds when core game play is broken.

Your lack of concern shows your lack of intimate experience with DCS so excuse me if I don't take you seriously.

I had the same problems with complex missions and ram. I use Liberation a lot. I bought a 3090 24gb, an m2 980 pro where I installed dcs and a virtual memory on a 60gb ssd 850 pro. Flight in VR without problems even for two hours. But this cannot be normal ... DCS also occupies 90 GB of memory during missions

Everything is going to be alright. Have faith in ED and one day you will go to DCS paradise - sorry, no EA (Early Access) possible!  

Until then, of course, you need to get used to the thought of (multiple) reincarnations...🤷‍♂️
