Tested the other flightsim and you know what, the GPU is the bottleneck.  Even in downtown Manhattan which is as congested as any other maps out there, my CPU frametime stayed around 15ms whereas GPU frametime went up to 18-19 (DLSS Quality).  It seems this sim does a really good job in terms of CPU management especially when DLSS is on.  Makes me wonder why I'm even upgrading my CPU because the GPU is the limiting factor here, and I barely play MP.

I just update the Varjo Base software to 3.7.1.11

I was hoping the issue was already fixed. But it does not seem so... 😞  We still need to wait apparently.

Correct it was stated in the release notes that the fix for the stutters with 4090 cards was not in this release, they are still working on it internally.

I’ve been rocking my Vive Pro. The color is great since it’s OLED but coming straight from the Aero it’s like flying with cataracts.  The motion smoothing is near perfect though, feels really great and we really need this option for the Aero.

Varjo opened up beta testing a few days ago and then when they had enough they closed it back down. It is closed beta testing and they had to sign NDA. Hopefully they get the fix thoroughly tested and out to all here very soon.

Im using the old Valve Index and I get stutters as well.  The only thing I did was change my video card from a 6900xt to the 4090.  You can tell its a huge jump in performance but im getting micro stutters.  Very annoying.  MSFS is doing the same thing!

My 6900Xt had ZERO stutters!

I thought it only happened with the Aero.  I’ll test my Index today.  It’s completely stutter free on my Vive Pro, and SteamVR’s latest motion smoothing algorithm is superb even with the Apache rotors (now I regret selling the Vive Pro 2, my friend who bought it had a fantastic experience with the 4090 running it at highest res).

Edit: just tested the Valve Index.  Completely stutter free at 80 Hz mode, SteamSS 220%.  Performance is really good since I only need 12.5ms of CPU and GPU frametimes to hit 80 fps.  Apache hot start Caucasus the CPU hit is a little rough on the airport, but once you're up in the air it's 80 fps completely smooth and a crazy good VR experience with zero reprojection...prior to the 4090 I wouldn't have thought the Apache would be possible at 80 fps.

Also Valve Index is more taxing on the CPU frametime by as much as 2ms compared to the Vive Pro or Aero at similar settings in DCS.  This behavior is also seen in MSFS.  I'm actually surprised about this because Index is from Valve, who creates SteamVR.  Anyway, the CPU frametime performance is not great with the Index compared to Vive Pro or Varjo Aero.

Did they say what the actual problem is?  It looks like spatial reprojection issue but can’t be since it happens at >90 fps also.  Or is it latency related to DSC use?

Been messing around since I got it, and my Asus TUF 4090 card so far has been an overclocking monster hitting stable 3000 MHz boost (+230) with temp below 70 not to mention quieter than my CPU AIO fans.  The only two games that can benefit from overclocking so far has been DCS and MSFS, everything else just show flattened GPU frametime graphs.  In 2D games (especially Unity engine ones) that my 3090 struggled to maintain 60 fps, the 4090 just crushed through with brute force.

Arch 🇫🇮 — Today at 8:54 AM

@Arch 🇫🇮
Update: Our preliminary tests show good results, but before we do public release we always conduct thorough testing with third party who per our request ordered 4090s for testing. And by thorough testing, I mean every aspect of the SW on all of the devices that we have produced. They should be getting their GPUs next week.  Since I know that there are several people who are having 4090s here and wait for the fix, we will include them in the beta testing from tomorrow. It will still require from you signing NDA with your legal name in order to prevent unreleased software from going around.  If you are having 4090 GPU, please DM me your email and other specs of the PC (CPU, MotherBoard model). I will send you the NDA and you will be included in the beta testers group after you send it back to me. It only applies to 4090 users, if you have different GPU, please do not try to participate, there is no benefit for users of previous GPUs.  (edited)

May I ask what wattage power supply you're using?  Thats the only thing I can think of that is causing my issue.  Cyberpunk runs perfectly smooth.  Im wondering if the GPU is trying to draw more power when using VR mode on these Flight Sims.  I am using an 850w power supply but should have my 1000w tomorrow.  Its frustrating cause DCS is pretty much the only game I play.  I even tried a clean install, new and older drivers.  I even tried DCS in 2D mode and it was perfectly smooth with around 110 FPS maxed out.  Any idea would be appreciated.

There’ve been only 2 reports out of tens of thousand cards sold so we’ll have to see if this will turn out to be a freak accident or something that is bound to happen.  Don’t think this happened with the 3090Ti which uses the same connector.

How do you know that there is only 2 reports?

btw....

Manufacturer of high-end cables, CableMod, has warned users that any odd bends or turns in the cable could put extra pressure on the connector and maybe even increase the risk of overheating. The company warns against vertical bends and horizontal bends, which essentially means users should aim to keep cables perfectly aligned and straight or risk malfunction.

Anyone who's ever built a PC will understand that this isn't always possible.

I can't say much but, super happy about the Aero now.  I would encourage anybody with 4090 to contact Varjo's Arch via discord to be included in the beta as they said they would include everybody who has 4090.  Stuttering is fixed, but also the IPD issue so now I can use a very thin facepad to maximize FOV especially the vertical FOV.

I just joined the Varjo Community discord. And texted in the DCS channel whom to contact for beta drivers as I cant find the contact you were telling to contact. Cant find anything about "arch" on there.

UPDATE!

Im only updating this incase this happens to someone else.  My mistake!  I bought a new motherboard and was going to do a clean install.  Added all 3 SSD cards and was ready with a one of them being a NEW SSD installed and windows on a thumb drive.  but when I booted I forgot to tell it to boot using the thumb drive.  So It loaded my original windows install on the new motherboard and everything seemed fine so I didnt bother with the new install of windows.

Bought a new 4090 and was using an 850watt power supply.  Everything worked great, even got extremely high scores on 3dmark.  Cyberpunk ran flawlessly along with every single 2D game I tried.  Even DCS in 2D was screaming with everything set to max running 2k I was hitting around 110-120 FPS.

So I tried VR and I got micro stutters.  I couldnt fix it, tried everything.  I thought maybe its the PSU wattage so I bought a MSI 1000w made for the 4090.

Hooked up the new PSU and nothing came on, only my ram LED lit up.  I used all the new cables minus the SATA cables.  I honestly didnt think those would be that much different.  I thought maybe its the PSU.  So I went and bought another one.  Same crap.  Finally took one thing at a time off the PSU and I found out it was the SATA cables.  So I replaced them and everything booted up like it should.

Loaded up DCS and still had the stutters.  I was so frustrated and didnt know what else to do but do a clean install.

The Clean Install did it!  DCS is running amazingly well now in VR.  Im averaging around 50-60 FPS with everything maxed besides the MSAA is set to x2 instead of x4.  I havent tried x4.

I know better and this should never have happened. SMH
