Fakum Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Just jumping in here to try and help a tad if I can, I believe I read that you are using Vista (If not, disregard this post) You need to edit the option.lua file from your desktop with notepad ++, then move it to the directory: C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts Not: C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
ruprecht Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I reinstalled the program, and cleaned up. searched for dublicates, tried other card drivers, just in case. l It certainly does seem that it's reading a different options.lua. Simple test: rename the multimonitor file, edit the new name into options.lua, then see if that change is picked up in the options screen. If not, you're editing the wrong options.lua file and there is probably a duplicate in the VirtualStore as Fakum pointed out. Fakum Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 By the way, I just finished reconfiguring and faking out my PC by moving my secondary monitor over to the right "VIRTUAL" only. WOW!!!! I got the resolutions I want and my Trim indicator and FPS on my main screen. I noticed a big FPS drop in Vista, between dual monitor and non, but just testing the same config out in W7 RC, little FPS drop in W7 RC, but not much. I have some more testing to do, but initialy, it looks like W7 RC is much better performance, even with the dual monitor running. You guys really helped me alot over the last month! thanks a million  Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
mrniel Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Ruprecht, first off all i want to thank you for your patience and helpfullness. everything you have suggested was correct, when you asked me to search for other duplicate files i presumed you meant in the Eagel Dynamics folders. as you can guess now, the problem was not my programming skills, but that i was programming the wrong file. stupid me, could have saved myself and your guys several days work. So yes I was dooing somthing wrong :) As Fakum suggested the correct file was in the virtual store subfolders, under username. A BIG thank to fakum. Attaching a pic showing result after 2 min work from arriving from work. A big hug to you guys, must visit australia soon, as it seems some really nice peop live there. already been in USA, Fakum :) A very greatful and happy mrniel

Fakum Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 mrniel, glad to hear your up and running. Im glad I can finnally assist for once instead of scratching my head. I must inquire, is that a 15"touch screen you have to the left you say? please elaborate! That looks bad ass! I want one for X-Mas if there not to expensive. I would love to be able to touch the buttons for the ABRIS on the screen. Also, Ill tell ya what I did with my TrakIR, I took the base off, inverted it within the housing, put the front cover back on and put a piece of velcro on the back. It now resides pretty much inconspicuously atteched to the top center on the bevel of my monitor, looks like the monitor came with it attached, so its right there all the time. Just thought you might be interested in relocating it so it is out of the way yet close and center. mrniel Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) The touchscreen is not to expensive, it's a LG L1510SF LCD display TFT. I offcause bought it on a local website near me, but i'm sure by searching you can find one near you or order one. I could have bought the 17 " a bit cheaper, but opted for the 15" despite it beeing more expensive, because it dosen't take up to much desktopspace compared to the 17". http://www.dustinhome.dk/pd_5010053838.aspx Reading in the manual about the TrackIr unit, it says the optimum distance is further away. Your typical distance to the screen is simply to short, if you mount it on the top of the monitor. Thats why I moved it back a bit. If dooing the same, be sure to elevate it a bit, or there will be a shadow zone when you look down. mrniel Edited August 5, 2009 by mrniel
Fakum Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Hmmm ,,, interesting about the TrackIR, I honestly did not read about the distance, I am expieriencing no issues at 2- 3 feet away,, but thanks for the info on both,,, Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
skoiboy Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Has the patch screwed all this up for other people as well?

Kurtz Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 OK the patch has fixed the phantom monitor issue. How ever it has added another problem. In my multimonitor setup I have 2x 22"w LCD. My primary is on the right hand side. When I launch DCS I get the left side of the GUI on my right monitor and nothing on the left. If I reverse my monitors in the display settings I get both halves of the GUI but the centre of the GUI is on the far right of my RS monitor, and the far left of my LS monitor. Hmm I dont think I can fly like that, any ideas? :)
ruprecht Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) screenshots, photos and posted configs help, it's hard to determine exactly what you're seeing. Pretty sure it won't be insurmountable. Are you still running the phantom monitor fix exe? Kurtz Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 (edited) Ok heres some pics- 1. GUI with display setting in correct position RS is primary. 2. Screenshot incorrectly reports GUI correctly with display setting LS as primary 3. This is what I see. The cockpit is split in a similar fashion. My configs are tried and proven. I can post them if you like. This is the first issue ive had a problem with multimonitor. ps- Phantom fix is inactive. I thought it was redundant with this patch? ***EDIT*** Ok Phantomfix is still required. All working now :) Edited August 11, 2009 by Kurtz

speed-of-heat Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) In Windows 7/Vista No offset is required for Phantom Monitor as this has been now fixed, you still need to change the width of the options lua to the width of Monitor 1 + Monitor 2. ["width"] = 3200, and my Camera+Shkval.lua ( Cockpit + Shkval on the RHS) looks like: Description = 'Cockpit camera on the left + Shkval on the Right monitor' Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1920; height = screen.height; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.5; } } Shkval = { x = 1920; y = 0; width = 1280; height = 1024; } and this is for my Cockpit + Shkval/ABRIS Description = 'Cockpit camera on the right monitor and ABRIS & Shkval on the left monitor' Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1920; height = screen.height; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.5; } } ABRIS = { x = 1920; -- starts at the left of the secondary screen, 1920 y = 0; width = 640; -- half the secondary screen pixel width height = 1024; -- full height of the secondary screen } Shkval = { x = 2560; -- as the Shkval starts at the second half of the right monitor, this is 1920 (the main view width) plus half of 1280 (halfway across the right monitor width) y = 0; width = 640; -- half of 1024, the secondary monitor width height = 512; -- to keep the aspect correct, half the height of the secondary screen } Edited August 21, 2009 by speed-of-heat SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

What do is wrong ?? I'm not sure changing stuff in the Virtual Store is such a great plan, you should edit it in the Real BS directory not the VS. I think you have three options; - one run DCS as administrator - turn off UAC (I really wouldn't recommend this) - re-install DCS into a non C:\Program Files directory, I have mine installed in C:\Games\Eagle Dynamics\KA-50 (remember to deactivate and keep the reactivation code which you should use when you re-install, see the manual for details) you can then edit the C:\Games\Eagle Dynamics\KA50\BlackShark\data\scripts\<nameoffile>.lua without a problem SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
Celo63 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Quick question about duplicate options.lua files. In Vista32 my friend has an options file in a "Virtual Store" sub folder and another in a BlackShark install subfolder, which one is the sim going to use and what do you do with the other one? Delete it, rename it, leave it there unchanged? This is not made clear in any of the info I've found so far. I'm trying to help my friend with his dual monitor setup but no joy yet. I've read all the posts and the wiki and have a better handle on it but there must be a simple thing still out of place somewhere. Gonna go through the files and the procedure again (and again.. lol) until I can weed out the error. Just wanted to clear up the duplicate files thing to be sure. ------------------------------ Seems overly complicated to get dual views working at present. A bit like trying to crack a safe. Miss one click of the tumbler and you're back to square one, lol. Maybe some kind soul will write a utility to take the hassle out of it, like DCS MAx did for processor cores? That would be pretty cool.

To find out which one is active?: - Do some changes in the virtual store one, start the game and see if it changed anything. ;) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
Celo63 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Yep, I guess the old trial and error approach will do it. Just wondered what ppl were doing with the other file... I really hate the way windows makes seemingly un-neccessary duplicate folders for so many things though. Whats the friggin point I ask??? Just takes up extra disk space as far as I can tell and complicates tasks like this dual monitor setup procedure. The mind boggles as to their logic, or lack of.. lol
PlainSight Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Leave that "Virtual store" (lol) folder alone, you set things up ONLY in your instalation folder, that's it. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
