cannot reproduce and missing track file Problems guiding AIM-7s when target isn’t inside the ASE

I’ve been having issues guiding AIM-7s when the target is outside the ASE circle on the HUD. I fire at the target once the steering cue or target is within the ASE but once the target is out of the ASE, the missiles sometimes just stops tracking. Has anyone else had this issue and is this intentional/normal or is this a problem with the Hornet’s Sparrow guidance. 
 

FYI, I am unable to provide a track at the moment since I’m away from my computer.

You shouldnt be in TWS launching AIM-7s as this mode is for AMRAAMs only. Only way you're launching is in SST or FLOOD.

Radar will switch to STT when you press triger so it shouldn't matter most of time.

Should switch from RWS or TWS to STT when you designate (hard lock) the target. That implies you select the target with your cursor twice to get a hard lock (or should automatically switch to STT when you select left on the weapon select switch on the stick). Regardless, theres only two modes you can launch the AIM-7 and outside those parameters you get dumb missiles 100% of the time. If I had my pick, Id use FLOOD mode when you have a defending target WVR. Also, STT launch two missiles at the same target - one straight, the other in LOFT to bracket the bandit. If you are using STT and keep losing the lock, then that means the bandit is dropping the lock. Cant tell without a track in this instance, but Ive never had issues with the AIM-7...other than its basically worthless compared to the AIM-120C.

Sorry I was indicating the way I had entered STT since I usually entered STT from TWS. I’ve had problems in the past when launching without going into STT and it not allowing you to switch to FLOOD.
