MBot Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Set up a ambush for the lead elements of a German advance. Includes a SP and MP version. http://cid-f33d8b1019e6f4ac.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Ambush.zip The mission includes radio voices spoken by my squad mate miRage and myself. We still need to work a bit on the uniformity of the voices and a authentic radio sound (and I need to work on covering up my Swiss accent :)) but I think you get the idea what to expect in the future. Two small tips for the mission: Send your wingman to alternative positions through the target points and generally fly with patience. Sitrep: Your squadron of the 45th Helicopter Regiment has been deployed to support the operations of the 413th Motorized Rifle Regiment, 4th Guards Tank Division. You are currently based at FARP Shpora located in the village of Giaginskaya. Following a successfull counter-offensive of the enemy, our forces are in the defensive trying to regroup. In our sector, the 5th German Panzer Division is advancing eastwards with the aim to take Majkop. The 413th Motorized Rifle Regiment is prepearing the defense of Belorchensk in an attempt to block the German advance, but enemy forward elements have already been spotted. The regiment has requested Army Aviation support in order to delay the German advance long enough to complete defensive preparations. Mission: You are tasked to lead a flight of 3 Ka-50, callisgn 251, to ambush lead elements of the German advance. After take-off, procede to assembly area (AA) THUNDER and await the latest situation report of SPECTER, a recon platoon currently holding contact with the enemy. SPECTER will advice on the security of our pre-planned battle positions (BP). Once you receive clearence of the regiment HQ (callsign PAPA BEAR), cross phase line (PL) LIGHTNING and occupy battle positions as desired. Engage enemy forces as they enter engagement area (EA) FLASH. Concentrate your firepower in space and time to achive maxiumum surpise and shock effect. Continue the engagement as long as you have the initiatve on your side, then disengage and return to base. Disruption of the enemy is the primary goal of your mission. The following target points have been programed into you PVI-800 system: TP1 - EA FLASH TP2 - Battle Position 1 TP3 - Battle Position 2 TP4 - Battle Position 3 Friendly forces are positioned north of PL LIGHTNING. SPECTER recon units are currently operating south of PL LIGHTNING and retreating north. Do not cross PL LIGHTNING until you receive confirmation that all SPECTER elements have pulled back. Do not cross PL STORM at any point because of unclear enemy operations. Do not cross regimental phase lines at any point because of IFF deconfliction. The enemy has deployed Hawk SAMS, remain at low altitude. Expect Gepard AAA and Stinger MANPAD along enemy troops. 2

ericinexile Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Excellent mission. Well done! How did you get drawn lines uplinked to the ABRIS. Also, your ceiling is set at 400m but I encounter it at 125m (roughly 400 ft). Just curious if there might be some sort of metric/imperial bug in the editor. uhoh7 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Another small masterpiece. Obviously excellent terrain, weather, coms. Many many small touches which add to immersion, I won't spoil it for those who haven't tried it. Solid 30-40fps throughout. Please keep these excellent missions coming. MBot Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 Please keep these excellent missions coming. I will give my best :) I am glad you like the mission. Next mission is currently under design in my head. Once I have the choreography nailed down I will start building. Without giving too much away, 155mm shells do not realy do substantial damage against the intended targets (might be something to look at), that is why I had to use MLRS that makes that up with volume. Ehm, dismounted mortars, M113 and LAV-M mortar carriers would be nice for that purpose aswell :) ericinexile, the ceiling of clouds is measured above sea level, that is why you see it lower above ground.
ruprecht Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 *SPOILER ALERT* Thanks for the mission, I really enjoyed it and am still trying to see what I need to do to get some sort of mission success rather than "the element of surprise is lost, rtb" :) I'm not sure of the ethics of using apartment blocks as cover, but it works for me! Are the MLRS near WP2 really firing north? It seems so. It made me wonder if the bad guys had snuck some troops forward. I really like the regimental phase line concept - it helps suspend the belief that there's nothing set up outside the lines :D Can't wait for the next one. 1 DCS Wishlist: | Navy F-14 | Navy F/A-18 | AH-6 | Navy A-6 | Official Navy A-4 | Carrier Ops | Dynamic Campaign | Marine AH-1 | Streaming DCS sometimes:
ruprecht Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 On the radio sound effects (which were great) you could try setting up a cheap walkie talkie next to your PC mic, then speaking your lines into the other walkie talkie. Will give you the slightly garbled voice and the "psssshhht". Your task is to dusrupt the enemy advance, as such you wont win or lose this mission. Rather you should do your job (attack the enemy as long as you safely can) and get back to base in one piece. Should you do really well though, you should get a message from Papa Bear on your way back:) Initially I wanted to do full after action report by Papa Bear on your way home, but with the way triggers currently works, this gets incredible complex very fast. The Smerch is actually firing west against some opponents of your northern neighbour regiment. 1

silent one Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Interesting watching the mission in tacview. Only way I spotted the long range sam that got me. Going to have to fly lower next time :( Shame this chopper doesnt have any sort of RWR. NO way to tell when your getting painted by radar. I would have thought this would be an essential piece of kit . Maybe it weighs too much. Dont understand its omission.any ideas?
