NOTE: The above shot shows V2.0 work not V3.0. I hope to find the time to change it soon!

 

ABOUT THIS AIRBASE MOD:

These textures replace the standard DCS Blackshark very low resolution runway, taxi roads, parking areas, run off roads and hardstandings with fully tiled, worn concrete high resolution textures to match (as closely as possible) real Russian Runways. The new textures have almost zero impact on FPS.

 

DOWNLOAD THE FULLY MODMAN COMPLAINT VERSION HERE:

Installation: See readme.txt included in the file.

This version should work properly in all seasons/campaign missions.

 

V3.0 - NEW!!! 22-4-2009!

NOTE!! This is a replacement for V2.0 although some of you might prefer V2.0

 

Changes (not shown in cover screenshots)

 

Improvements:

Replaced the V2.0 white lining with aged version all areas except the parking area where I've darkened the V2.0 lining a little.

Removed gravel from runway and replaced with white lining and grass edging under.

Moved outer lining on taxi roads to edges (pros and cons here!)

Improved blending from runway concrete to grass at the start of the runway (not so good in winter season)

Lightened runway texturing generally

Fixed a problem with a small tile showing on the K-Ray

 

Known Issues:

I cannot fix the texture placement issues such as overlapping.

There's a minor problem at the runway start with a black or white line. Don't know why this occurs at all!

Do you plan release an asphalt runway version ?

 

I was chatting to him earlier today and he says he is working on the asphalt one as we speak...so cool aye!?!? As far as I am aware nuns with orphans, puppy's and kittens are waiting for the asphalt version.

 

I really hope he doesn't disapoint them.

 

Good work so far dragon...although if you follow form I expect 2.1 BETA at some point tonight :D

No I'm not currently working on any asphalt! I did think about it in the early stages and, as it happens, VikVaughn did a quick test of it somewhere in my original thread. I WOULD do it if we could have texture variations per runway but we can't. When I was doing research I could only find one SAT photo of a Russian runway which appeared to have some Asphalt.

 

I guess if everyone wanted it I might have a go at some point.. However most people seem to want things to be as close to real as possible.

 

The only thing I'm considering at the moment is lightening up the concrete a little and releasing that as an alternate version.

TAXI ROAD OPTIONAL ADDON/REPLACEMENT

 

flanker1 in my old thread asked if I could put a soft edge on the taxi roads. I've looked at this and have made an optional addon which does this (to a degree). HOWEVER there are a couple of issues:

 

Because I use transparency, I'm "cheating" and therefore I can't make the addon MODMAN installable. BUT! you CAN use it with the MODMAN version of my mod (if that makes sense!) So. basically you can use MODMAN to install the original Airbase Set and then manually put the file included in the optional addon manually into the "TempTextures" folder.

 

The problem with this optional addon is that it looks good in most areas but not where a taxi road meets a perpendicular taxi road. So... if you don't care about the odd gap issue and prefer the softer edge grab the file from here:

ps: when you say you want the change the lightining a little bit - do you mean you want to change the colour a little bit to the yellow/ivory tone - tarmac on russian airbases often has?

Yes, whilst I'm reasonably happy with the texture set I will probably do an alternate version where the concrete colour is a lighter/yellower/ivory tone. It will take me some time and I don't have the time to properly do it at the moment. If only we could have different textures/colours for each Airbase!

don´t misunderstand me - the current textures you made are beeeeeaaaaaaaautiiiiiiiful. :-)

 

. . . for each airbase. . . that would be a dream. . . but there is no way to do that, right?

 

what i still miss are some details like lamps, a nice wall or fence. . . another infrastructure buildings, sam sites, radar sites and so on. . . and last but not least BLAST REFLECTOR WALLS. . . ;-)

I couldn't find a way to change textures by runway neither could I find a way to adjust texture placements or add in extra textures. I asked Necroscope (who is more experienced) and he said that the information is held in files which currently can't really be edited.. Or at last that's the impression I got.

Text good, font choice good, pictures good (top left would make an excellent desktop background!), merging bad.
