Flappie Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 (edited) Hi. You're having the dreadful "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" kind of crash. It means the sim "loses" all contact with the GPU, which causes it to stop. This error can have various origins. Sometimes, it means the GPU is dying, but let us be optimistic. I'll make a list of things that helped users. Feel free to try them out. Rename your "Saved Games\DCS" to DCS.backup (do NOT delete it). If you have an internal GPU on your motherboard, disable it in BIOS. Disable RAM XMP profile in BIOS. Disable Aorus Graphics Engine autoscanning (auto OC). Disable Corsair iCue. Disable Asus GPU Tweak. Remove GPU overclocking. Set Windows power plan to "High performance" then turn everything to 100%. Removed dust from CPU coooler Try another PSU if you have one nearby. Disable SSLR. Edited January 28, 2023 by Flappie ---
dmatsch Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 I'm not so sure this is the case. I've run several different stress tests (3dmark, passmark, and one other that escapes mind) with no issues. Other AAA games work fine for extended periods. I'm not convinced that this is not isolated to DCS.
dmatsch Posted February 1, 2023 Author Posted February 1, 2023 (edited) BTW: I had a mission where I removed ALL client and player aircraft and just let it run. It ran fine. But as soon as I set one of the aircraft to "player" or "client", then about 5-10 minutes into flying...freeze then crash. Other AAA games with extensive hardware requirements run fine. dmatsch Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 here is a stress test on my CPU. RTX2080Ti. No problems. 10 minutes into a small mission in DCS -- crash. _kombustor_log.txt
dmatsch Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 spent two hours on MSFS2020 yesterday with no issues. 10 minutes into DCS, crash.
HoMeBoY Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 @dmatsch The device removed error in my experience is caused by the Nvidia driver being loaded with test or debug settings enabled and it tries to assert or crash instead of just ignoring when the GPU takes some long calculation and it hangs. When it loses contact with the GPU is because it crashes thinking you got stuck You can fix it or try fixing it by changing the TDR level in you registry. dmatsch Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 (edited) ok. Thank you. I'll give it a shot. However, yesterday I spent about 2 hours with another flight sim with no problems. This has GOT to be isolated to DCS Edited February 6, 2023 by dmatsch

However, yesterday I spent about 2 hours with another flight sim with no problems. This has GOT to be isolated to DCS I had a similar problem with a well know race sim. It was the only thing that would crash my PC and the logs showed an nvidia driver issue. I was convinced it was the sim but it wasn't a problem experienced by others. Eventually I accepted it was my PC - the race sim was just the trigger that pushed it over the edge. It was a while ago, I think I ended up reinstalling Windows but it may be fixable by trying the post above yours.
