Just been trying to play in the AH-64 in Single player. I jumped to the CPG slot and George descended to just off the ground even though the altitude showed 230 R. Nothing I could do would make him come up. Also swapping back to pilot from CPG is a very dangerous thing to do as the helo goes from stable to insane instantly.

Hmm, strange. I flew yesterday (from the CPG seat) and had no issues with this.

Any chance you saved the track file so we can have a look?

First thing that came to my mind, was this:

Quote

In CPG seat - FLT mode - Up Long command:

  • If set to <1420 feet, George will hold the radar altitude
  • If set ≥1420 feet, George will hold the barometric altitude

But if this were the issue, the George AI FLT altitude shouldn't indicate 230R..

System specs:

i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU

HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3

The only issue I could find is that if you are very high and you go above radar altitude then george will actually descend to the barometric altitude (which is lower than the radar altitude).

For example if the ground level is at 1500ft and you tell george to go to 2000ft baro, he will go to 500ft radar, which is below 1420ft radar physically, but "above" 1420ft radar when you scroll through the altitude you want him to fly.

I believe a better approach would be to start the barometric altitude to hold not at 1430, but at current ground level MSL + 1420, so setting anything above the radar altimeter range will actually be above the radar altimeter range.

But the OP said he saw "230R" in the alt box.

If he was in barometric altitude mode, that "R" would have been a "B" (and would also state his ordered altitude. as per your example: "Alt 2000ft B"

For these kind of reports, a track file would be really useful

LOL yes do not be close to the ground when switching back. Its not too bad as long as you don't move the controls but be ready when you finally have to move them has it can be quite the ride.

I am having a similar problem, but kind of opposite - I am running Steam DCS, tried uninstalling and installing the AH64D module, updated everything, and this just started recently - when I engage the flight mode of George AI in the AH64D, it ascends to an altitude of around 1500 feet. It does this if I switch from pilot to copilot, from a hover started with George IA or from direct controls in the CPG seat, it will ascend to 1500' Barometric.

If I switch from a hover to CPG and engage George AI in Hover mode it will not do this, only when it is in flight mode at speed, even if it is 40 mph or knots. Track file attached

THIS IS ONLY HAPPENING IN THE COLD WAR GERMANY MAP SO FAR AS I CAN SEE, IT WORKS FINE IN OTHER MAPS I HAVE TRIED!!!!
