bofhlusr Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I am checking out the A-10C targeting pod. I've been trying to get the TGP page on the right MFCD 1. Instant Action 2. Take-Off 3. Laser Arm - Arm 4. TGP - On 5. Coolie Hat - short right to cycle to OSB 15 (TGP) 6. Coolie Hat - long right click Result: "TGP OFF", "NOT SOI". I've done this several times. I get SOI on the left MFCD, HUD, and HMCS. But not on the right MFCD. What am I doing wrong or what am I missing? TheGhostOfDefi Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Before you try to select right MFCD SOI do you select either A-G or A-A?

Select one of the two other modes, AA or AG, and then you will be able to assign SOI to it. Those snipets from the manual you posted, they don't say anything about assigning SOI to the TGP, they only talk about powering up.

As razo+r says, you can't SOI the TGP while it's in standby, just like you can't SOI the Mav before EO is on. bofhlusr Posted February 9, 2023 Author Posted February 9, 2023 @Yurgon Thank you for the quick reply. I downloaded the A-10C manual from the DCS website previously after you noticed a discrepancy in our manual versions even though they were both dated the same. I checked the manual that I downloaded from the DCS website. The Targeting Pod Set Up in the manual is on page 521 (see below), and not on page 616 as you referenced (see your prior post). Nonetheless, I looked in the Table of Contents, and I followed the directions on page 521 for setting up the TGP. I'm supposed to get a 'STANDBY' message after pressing OSB2. But as you can see from the track I attached, I'm still getting that NOT SOI message, and neither am I seeing the referred OSB2 selection, and the corresponding A-G screen mentioned in the manual. Can't help but wonder what I'm missing... Your version of the manual comes with DCS Stable; I took the info from the manual that comes with the OpenBeta. It seems the OpenBeta manual has already received a bunch of updates, hence the difference in page numbers. But as far as the TGP and its operation is concerned, these chapters probably have been the same since the original A-10C module came out. That's why I indicated the page number for reference, but also noted in which chapter this can be found. Long story short, the TGP info in all of these manuals should be correct, as far as I'm aware. 2 hours ago, bofhlusr said: Can't help but wonder what I'm missing... The TGP. In the free flight mission you used before, you didn't switch the existing and already powered TGP to the AG page. This time you changed a variable and selected another mission, the takeoff mission. It doesn't have a TGP loaded, and so the TGP page always reads TGP OFF. (I think in the past it would have read "NO TGP" when none was mounted, but maybe I'm remembering that incorrectly). It probably goes without saying that the TGP can't be SOI when no TGP is loaded to the aircraft.
bofhlusr Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 Good to know it's user error (not surprising really), and that there's something I can do about it. I'll try again, this time in Free Flight. I'm wondering if I should do OpenBeta. How long has it been in Beta and what are the three major changes? What would you recommend? Should I 'upgrade' to OpenBeta? If yes, where and how do I join? Uninstall the stable version first, or just install the OpenBeta version over the existing version. Thank you. That means it gets features faster than stable - and bugs, too. Users are very much encouraged to report problems with the OpenBeta version here on the forums and be active in helping Eagle Dynamics identify and locate those issues. Of course that means first checking if an issue is a) incorrect behavior in the first place and b) already reported and/or discussed on the forum. It's totally up to you whether you prefer to get updates faster or whether you prefer the slightly more stable, well, Stable version. All things considered, if you don't follow the update progress closely, and if you don't intend to fly new modules right at Early Access release, then the Stable version is probably better suited because you're less likely to run into issues. 40 minutes ago, bofhlusr said: If yes, where and how do I join? You can get the OpenBeta installer from digitalcombatsimulator.com, right next to the standard DCS installer. 41 minutes ago, bofhlusr said: Uninstall the stable version first [?] If you're low on disk space, you can do that. If you've got lots of space to share, you can install the OpenBeta in parallel and keep your existing Stable. They don't interfere with each other. 42 minutes ago, bofhlusr said: or just install the OpenBeta version over the existing version [?] I'm not sure if the installer allows to install over an existing installation. It's actually possible to change an existing installation from Stable to OpenBeta, or the other way around. But that's for advanced users, and makes the most sense when you're limited by download bandwidth. If you've got good download speeds and a flatrate, there's really no downside to uninstalling Stable and installing OpenBeta anew. 1

razo+r Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 Top three changes? Well, you can't really say it that way. When it comes to the A-10 currently, there are none. However, the OpenBeta, which has been in beta forever, usually gets new features and bugfixes but also bugs before the stable version does. 1

bofhlusr Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 (edited) I went ahead and installed the OpenBeta version and copied my config folder from the Stable release. I noted two things immediately after one pattern flight. 1. The nose wheel seems more sensitive and I'm having a tough time going straight on the runway. I'll fail the driving test for sure for having too much alcoholic drinks. 2. The HUD INTEN setting now seems to default to maximum intensity (which is a good thing) and I may not have to install the dark font or symbology mod on the HUD. Is this how it is supposed to be for OpenBeta? I'll start using the OpenBeta version for now and also browse the manual. Do you use Trackir? I've been hesitant to buy one since I have VR (which I don't use). I saw TrackIR selling on eBay for U$86 but I'm wondering if this is legit (see link below). Price is low compared to prices in Amazon. Amazon has it from U$125 to about U$180. If the eBay item is legit I might buy one and see how the experience compares with the VR headset (Meta Quest 2) Infrared TrackIR5/TrackNP5 6DOF Head Tracking System Gaming Flight Simulator | eBay Edited February 10, 2023 by bofhlusr Win Pro 10, A-10c (rarely used, but started with Falcon AT!), P3D v4 (100+ add-ons mostly ORBX), i7-8700k, 16 GB 3200 Mhz RAM, Gigabyte Z370M DS3H, Corsair water cooler, EVGA SuperNOVA Gold 650W, PNY GTX 1070ti, Dell 27" G-sync monitor, Logitech 3D Pro, NVMe OS drive, TB's of free space on SSD.

Can't say I'm aware of any nosewheel steering differences between Stable and OB (OpenBeta) as far as the A-10C and A-10C II modules are concerned. 6 hours ago, bofhlusr said: The HUD INTEN setting now seems to default to maximum intensity Yes, that's one of the changes in the OB. 9 hours ago, bofhlusr said: What are the top three changes in OpenBeta over the Stable version? That's highly subjective, and is also a matter of when one answers this question (and when one reads the answer). The A-10C II is going to get the front ARC-186 replaced by an ARC-210. That's going to be my number one most important change when it drops in OB. It's important to understand that OB is just ahead of Stable by a few weeks. Eventually, everything we have in OB is going to get pushed into Stable. So whatever your personal top three OB features are right now, they're going to be part of Stable in a few weeks. And then OB is going to receive another set of new features, which will eventually get pushed to Stable, and the cycle keeps repeating over and over. 6 hours ago, bofhlusr said: I saw TrackIR selling on eBay for U$86 but I'm wondering if this is legit (see link below). If you were using VR, there'd be no need for TrackIR. But if you don't use VR, then yeah, TrackIR is the way to go (there are certainly alternatives, but I've had TrackIR for many years and wouldn't miss it). No idea about that eBay offer; I've got mine from the European TrackIR reseller, but not sure if that one's still in business. Looks like worldwide sales are handled by trackir.com, so you should be safe there. If you opt for a cheaper seller, it's up to you to assess their legitimacy. 1
