Computer shuts down when ever I fly low to the ground

Computer shuts down when ever I fly within 10-50 feet off the ground. Have tried reducing all options to min. but problem still occurs. Dosent matter what mission im in either, have tried instant action, campaigns and single missions and whenever i get close to the ground the computer just switches off and restarts. The only exception is when landing on a runway. No error reports are generated due to the shutdown. Any help greatly appreciared.

 

Am using english downloaded version 1.0 of BS

First thing I would do is to disable automatic restart after a windows stop error occurs and check if you get a blue screen with an error code. Read this on how to do it:

If i enable the DS3D GX in my ASUS dx2 card the game crashes randomly. Other wise is very stable.

wild guess here... maybe video card or sund card cause crash when flying low because of dust effect? I think if it would be overheating it would do same when flying bit higher, not just very low so maybe try lowering effects for DCS to disable dust effect?

OK I have turned off system restart. booted up the game and selected quickstart. Proceeded straight to the deck put my gear down, bounced the nose wheel a little on the ground, pulled up a little and attempted to land but before I could land the computer turned itself off and restarted. no BSOD no log NO IDEA. as I said in the first post it Dosen't matter what detail level I have running it just always crashes to restart. What good is an attack helicopter sim if I cant fly close to the ground. Might have to try it on XP.:(

 

Also computer was just started up for the day running maybe 6-10 mins . And system has never done this before and I have played Crysis, Call of duty World at war etc no probs

You know this sim is much more demanding (if not the most stressfull game right now) compared to Crysis, Call of Duty or any other FPS because all other titles are more dependent on video card and not on CPU. Maybe, just maybe this sim has found a week spot on your system (the CPU) and maybe it is in fact overheating. To eliminate posibility of game itself crashing your system because, like you say, it happens when you fly low, close to the ground, start the mission and just climb to few 100 meters and stay at that altitude... fly bit higher and if it doesn't restart/crash then look further what could be causing it. If you get desperate (or in fact when I have problems I can't seem to solve) I resourt to OS reinstall and work fresh. Good luck.

Ram, CPU or even power supply. Try memtest to test your ram and orthos to stress test your CPU.

Does really sound like a hardware or heat issue as others here have said. Test components.

Check system/CPU/Graphics card fans for failure or clogging.

Memtest the memory (will expose bad or failing memory).

Rthdribl the video card (will expose heat issues/failing card).

Test PSU if possible. (Shut down issues are often caused by failing PSU).

Could also be video drivers, especially if he can play other games ok but is having probs with this one, I would make sure your pc is set to not reboot if a blue screen error shows up so that you can see what the bsod error says and see what file or programme is causing the crash, then with that you may get an idea of where and what the problem is.

scrap that idea as I see you have already disabled auto reboot on bsod, if you can play other hardcore games no problem then I dont think its your vid card overheating, could be your cpu overheating though as this game does need lots of cpu resources, as others have said, do a check for ram and check your cpu temps with load during this game, also you may have an option in your bios to shutdown or restart if your cpu hits a certain temp ? if so disable it, or if possible increase the cpu shutdown temp so that it doesnt shutdown at a low cpu temperature.

 

also since you never got an error screen, the next time that it does happen, if you dont get an error screen, when it reboots goto control panel and adminstrative tools and then goto event viewer and look for incidents with the times that correspond with the time your pc shutdown and it should give you an indication of why it shut down.

Do you have a page file set up or turned on in the system? If not you need to. Make sure aero is off and you have set the UAC off. Might even be your PSU, Ram, CPU, or GPU. Look in bios for automatic temp settings and set a little higher see is that helps too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. am trying them all out. I uped the bios cpu temp monitor alarms and am doing memory and cpu load tests. Funny thing was when i was videoing the screen to catch a crash it was faultless. It crashed when i was playing back the track file of the mission I just completed. Weird! Also disabling reboot on error did not work. Any way still testing and am trying same computer but with win XP.

This may be a silly suggestion, but it sounds like your PC is dying whenever the dust effects are supposed to be showing. There's a way to turn those off, but I can't remember how (some editing of a .cfg or .lua file). Turn them off and see if your PC still behaves the same way - at least it can help narrow the search down.

which says something about some worm and rootkits installed on your pc, dont know if that is the case with you, but best check for them in anycase, I dont think it is caused by a worm as too many people have the same kind of problem and ms have released a fix of sorts.

All I can say is, before you do anything, read up on the problem and dont blame me if the fix doesnt work and makes your pc more unstable, I hope it doesnt but you can never tell with these types of things.

Hey bumfire

 

How do you run the Script file. I have tried all the other fixes mentioned and nothing seems to stop the crashes, and they are occuring more often and not just when Im close to the ground. Im about ready to give up on DCS now if this dosn't fix it.:(

whats the power supply rating? supply will shut down if the video card is drawing to much amps

from 12volt lines. safety feature on many new psu. =hence pc shutting down.

 

 

really need min 650watt supply for a 9800gtx and above.

 

i have the oc version runs fine on 650watt supply.

 

again could be overheating check dust inside case?
