Feel free to flame me for the dumb question, but this is something that I can never work out in flight sims.

Where do I park? The progressive taxi feature in FSX was cool, because it showed you exactly where to go when taxiing to the runway for takeoff, and exactly where to go for full stop or refuelling.

But no other sim has this feature, so I can't for the life of me figure out where to go.

Right now I'm ordering my wingman to RTB and following him like a lost dog, but he's not the boss of me, dammit, he should be following me in (or should he?).

Any ideas?

Yeah, pretty much ... unless you're in a civilized part of the world.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

You're in a helicopter. You park wherever the f**k you want to!

That's what I like to hear. Incidentally, is this SOP for military choppers? I thought they had rules and stuff.

In a Multiplayer environment, you Park where you Spawn.

I seldom get irritated as much as when I Spawn in on another craft due to some...........let me stop there!

Too bad we don't have the ATC guys direct us after touchdown.

manual page 369 :

ATC - Tower

Player has come to a halt after landing on runway.

‚[N], [M], taxi to parking area,"

But unfortunately I never heard it .... Dose any one ???

i like to park where other helis can be found on the airstrip. of course, if you're landing at a FARP then you should sit still at the helipad with the 'H'.

I have the same problem as the OP with DCS I had the same problem with Lock On, never knew which direction you should land or take off, and on big air fields I couldn't always find my way around very good either, and never did anyone tell what to do or where to go... A little more communication from the tower would go a long way for immersion.

Hi,

If you read the briefing at the start, it gives wind speed and strength. You then look at the compass and the answer should be clear. ;)

Because you're in a heli, taxi out onto the runway, align into the wind, then take off. If you want to do a rolling takeoff, then watch for cross winds etc..

Best regards,

Tango.

ATC tell you a runway number - add a zero to the runway number, and that's the heading of the runway. From that you can tell which direction to turn from the ramp

Cheers.

I started on a FARP in a campaign mission, and upon returning landed on the 'wrong one' of two helipads (not the one I started on, the one my wingie started on).

My reasoning was that there were two, and my wingman was behind me, so I approached into the wind and landed at the 'forward' one, thinking he'd land on the other (being behind me and all).

Strangely enough he overflew ahead of me and hovered (until I quit the mission).

The place he hovered meant that if I were on the 'correct' pad, his position (in relation to me) would have been above the other helipad.

Any info? As far as i'm aware ATC don't give a specific pad to each chopper.

Too many cowboys. Not enough indians.
