Talon_300th Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Hey guys, It's been a while since I was in the forums and indeed a while since I played Lock On. I want to jump back in, but since the release of Black Shark, I've been a bit confused and I have a few questions that I was hoping someone would be kind enough to clear up for me, or at least point me to where I can find some answers. Now, I was looking around for answers before I turned to the forums, but I couldn't get a straight solution (and apologies in advance if my question seems benighted). Is Black Shark an expansion for Lock On, or is it a stand alone package, with the same Ukrainian/Russian territories? And if it isn't, can I use Black Shark without installing Flaming Cliffs? Is there somewhere I can get patch notes on Black Shark if it is an expansion? And finally, does anyone know if the Flaming Cliffs package for sale on the ED website is a download or a delivery (and if it is a download, how does it work in relation to Starforce)? BaD CrC Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 BS is a totally new game. It's completely independant from LOFC. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
Murphyd Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Blackshark is a standalone product. It is available for purchase now in most if not all major regions. -- Murphy
GGTharos Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 It does use StarForce with online activations. No disk checks/drivers. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Sunjah Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) I would stay away from that website to buy Flaiming Cliffs. I was all ready to purchase it when I got this message as I pressed checkout: Security Warning! I've never had that before or since, so I just went on to Amazon and found it from a storefront. It made me really nervous to continue with that website. Well, sorry, I had the picture all copied, but it only showed up above as text. Now, apparantly the website hates me because it won't even acknowledge my account. I would advise caution, though, this was a direct warning that the website address and the actual site address were different. GGTharos Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 It gives you a security warning because ED opted to self-sign the certificate instead of getting is signed by verisign etc. It is in this case a false warning. bumfire Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Yup, if you had read correctly the warning you got was due to ed not paying for a veri sign or similar certificate and instead opted to sign their own signature which many sites do and is quite legit, both sites are run by ed, www.lockon.ru and www.lockon.co.uk. Nothing dodgy there and as far back as I can remember, basically the same day FC came out it was like that, maybe even before hand ? It would be better if ed got a payed for certificate since its a russian site as lots of western people have some phobia when it comes to russian websites, but their is really nothing to worry about aslong as you read the security warning correctly, and if I recall the security warning in firefox 2 was just a box telling you exactly what the situation was all about but in firefox 3 it is more scaremongering telling you stay out.

DCS Black Shark is the first Module of the DCS series, it still uses a better version of the LockOn engine, and around the same region. DCS Black Shark is completely Stand Alone as every Module of DCS will be! (DCS Modules will work together too tho) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) Talon_300th Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks for the replies, guys - much appreciated. Given that Black Shark is a stand-alone package, does that mean that the only flyable aircraft in the game is The Black Shark or did they throw in any Jets from the Lock On series? If not, do you reckon they'll include some in the future? I've heard that the engine behind Black Shark is great, so it would be excellent to see some jets. Yes If not, do you reckon they'll include some in the future? Evry new module of DCS will include a new Aicraft. Lt. Jake Grafton: "Fighter pukes make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY!"
Talon_300th Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Right, that's everything I need to know at the moment. Thanks a million. It'll be interesting to see what the next module contains. Fingers crossed it will be announced soon! WynnTTr Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) Next study aircraft they're doing is the A-10. After that the AH-64A is scheduled. Why no D version? Well ED have already stated that they're only going to do aircraft that have full data available to them - no guessing how it might fly in a given scenario, no guessing what that switch might do in the cockpit. Given the quality of BS, I can't wait for each new module. Edited January 29, 2009 by WynnTTr
Maverick-GER- Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Yeah and reading statements from ED after the Apache we will finally get jets! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] F-14 Tomcat Rest in Peace (and hopefully get reborn in DCS!) (Dream came true about 10 years later, now the Apache please )
