With the extra detailed and animated RAZBAM's Strike Eagle driver and upcoming Eagle Dynamics Hornet and Viper pilots, it would be really really nice game dynamic if:

1/ in case of AI downing / AI ejecting a SAR mission tasking was generated for human (or AI helo) + if a utility helo lands near downed aircrew they board the helo and trigger is generated so we can further action this.

'trigger action 'unit x boards rescue unit y' 

2/ in case pilot ejected and landed in water, it uses floating device to stay afloat and wait for SAR.

 

If the above is not feasible then perhaps we can get these pilots as personnel static object as with the deck crew. That way we could spawn / despawn them using Lua code.

There are ready-to-use scripts available (see here and here, more are available) that you can add to your mission to enable that. Of course it would be even better if this was built in to DCS, but you can do it now with little effort.

We really, really, REALLY need that. Currently, it looks a bit ridiculous. It'd be great if DCS provided a couple of sea-rescue related statics: person (civ) floating, pilot with inflated west floating, inflated rafts floating.

Thanks cfrag but, while MIST is fairly easy to use, I would like to avoid relying on it. Also, it seems this script you linked is for something that makes sense in MP which I don't do that much (maybe had 5 flights with a friend total).

There was a simulator game in 1991 about helicopters (Apache Blackhawk, Kiowa), there was a standard mission of picking up the troops or rescuing a pilot.. those pixels were even waving their pixel hands.

Yep, definitely +1 for adding life-rafts for pilots and (C)SAR tasking (especially if we could get helicopters with functioning rescue hoists/winches).

Well, if you want me to, I can create as many SP CSAR missions as you like within minutes with DML 🙂 - tell me map, helicopter, and time of day, and I'll see to it that you have an SP CSAR mission really quick that can even be randomized. Just let me know. It still would be better if it was integrated in DCS, agreed.

I really appreciate the offer, If you could do Mariana Islands map for Hind, early morning, just one mission, so I can see what it is all about perhaps?

Sir, yessir! 🙂 should probably take me all of 15 minutes, plus lunch (need the calories). It'll be bare-bones (no frills), but will have ADF, smoke, randomized CSAR location, the works. If the hapless guy lands in the woods, you'll have to winch-rescue, but that's usually a given in Marianas. 

I'll post the mission when I'm done.

OK, did this while eating, and did not have time to test it, so please report anything amiss.

CSAR has very little "C", as I did not include any enemies (that would have taken another 5 minutes, but you can add them easily yourself). There is an (intentional) small chance that you'll have to do a water rescue, as the downed pilot appears somewhere (randomly) inside the trigger zone "CSAR Mission Area" (DML uses trigger zones to control everything). After picking up Lt. Wesley Crasher, return him to the marked "HOSPITAL" zone (where you take off from) to complete the CSAR. Pilot will blue smoke automatically when you get close, and the CSAR mission dispatcher has his ADF frequency should you want to use ADF. The Hind starts hot. You can add red Hips or Hueys as alternate rescue choppers. Early Morning, no wind.

Every time you run the mission, Crasher will appear somewhere else (inside the CSAR zone).

Although last time I flew Hind was about a year ago, it was very easy mission compared to the code in the mission start trigger.

Well, no matter how small, my first time was indeed a winch rescue as the Lt. Crasher was standing on a rock few meters off the beach.

@cfrag You may have just changed my life now that I've discovered DML!  I'm once again amazed by the tools developed by the community.  Thank you!

Also make water landings survivable.  As far as I know. Water landings always leads to dead pilot.

This is already internally requested feature I was told. But no one seems to know when would that happen or if.
