Radar scope noise level

Hi,

It's a cool video about French Mirage F1 operating in Tchad,  Mirage F1 CR and CT.

Mirage F1 CT were former Mirage F1 C200 upgraded with CR components.

But the radar was kept the same, so for instance, instead of upgrading the radar to get AG ranging they added a laser ranger finder.

At 5:34 you can see the radar operating in AA. As far as I can tell: mode "IC", range 35Nm, elevation setting D+06.

There is no noise on the scope !

I would not worry too much yet. So far DCS F1 radar is just a place holder for the time being... so indeed it does not resemble any proper radar behaviour of F1 radar

Hello! The radar is probably the most WIP item in the plane. Reports from our SMEs (both pilots and technicians) indicate that the noise levels should indeed be generally lower, so we are aware of it. Thanks a lot for the report and the video tho.

Thanks for letting us know that, but are you planning to reduce the noise even if it's still WIP?

(Like soon so we get a most acceptable level of noise on the scope)

Excellent . Good to hear you are working on improvements in this area since currently the noise simulation sadly is completely static regardless of certain conditions and altitude. Really looking forward to the upcoming changes…

Though in the video you have no idea what the pilots Gain or storage settings are.  These dramatically affect the "noise"or speckle displayed on the scope... as does Antenna elevation. Both require careful use to get the best out of the radar . Not having any noise or speckle is not a good thing ... no noise/speckle = no targets either

there isnt gonna much be much noise if the radar is scanning against sky.

there will be lots of noise if the radar is scanning against terrain.

this difference is not simulated in dcs f-1 at all. you always get the same amount of noise no matter whats happening.

It's true, but we can make some educated guess.

If I understood correctly, there is an automatic gain reduction system which is operating when the gain control is set to maximum.

The elevation is set to D+06, so likely in look up.

My other source is that I have the chance from time to rime to play DCS with a former Mirage F1 CT pilot. He always said that the noise level is too high.

As what I saw in the manual I can agree that it doesn't show that much noise, also the greek video looks like it's using older versions of the Cyrano IV, thus the one we had in DCS is Cyrano IVM the latest variant
