Shaman Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 A Royal Navy nuclear submarine was involved in a collision with a French nuclear sub in the middle of the Atlantic http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7892294.stm 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
CE_Mikemonster Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Yeah heard this on the radio today. Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
Boberro Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Me too, weird to get into collision in XXI century especially "fast" subs. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
tflash Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 One of the "advantages" of stealth! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
morsmortis Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I was surprised to hear it wasn't an American and Russian sub that collided. Our two countries subs are made of magnetically opposite materials. :)
CE_Mikemonster Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 The amount of accidents we get in the press the Royal Navy ought resort to a stealthy sponge coating. Cork would be ideal, but tends to add buoyancy. Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
Vekkinho Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Yeah corks are stealthy, I still can't find that one from New Year's eve... :smilewink: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nscode Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Did you check your eye ;) Oh my, they colided. Both of their countries must be in such a desperate state. Oh, what poor maintenance. Their planes iz goint to follow. Ow noez. :shifty: Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
DTWD Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Subs have prangs all the time, it was relativly commen in the cold war, especially during "crazy ivans". Don't forget you can't just look out the window of one of these things, it's all passive sonar, and during normal operating procedures when in the operating area the screws are going quite slow and the boat is relativly quite, if you don't actually know something is there chances are you can hit it, just like the sea bed...that happens as well. Apparantly this is the French's ONLY attack sub...you think they would be extra careful with it. It also serves them right for not agreeing to share positioning information like the Brits and the Yanks do. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CE_Mikemonster Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 It also serves them right for not agreeing to share positioning information like the Brits and the Yanks do. We obviously don't need to know their position seeing as we found them so quickly lol Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
DTWD Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Do you think it's difficult to spot a sub with onions draped round it's conning tower? :D Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
jpm1 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 you would have post on the 1st of april i wouldn't have read the thread We obviously don't need to know their position seeing as we found them so quickly lol lol SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kenan Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 That's what happens when you have no0bs driving the subs..:D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commanding Officer of: 2nd Company 1st financial guard battalion "Mrcine" See our squads here and our . Croatian radio chat for DCS World

Ayup... icebergs scored some hits too... sneaky bastages. At least that is one indignity (collision) that my ol' boat managed to avoid. Well... it's not like we are their friends or anything,...:dontgetit: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
