Mr_sukebe Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 For those of us on the UK, Amazon has the Quest Pro on sale. It’s not a huge discount at 11%, but it makes the price a good deal more palatable. 1 1 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Whistler_RIO Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 just want to say that I have a Quest Pro and get a really nice performance out of it in DCS, with this this open-faced headset design that really lends itself to long missions and the need to peak down and see my flight panels or beverage. there is a specific DCS optimized foveated-rendering utility (made by the creator of OpenXR Toolkit Companion app) that uses the eye-tracking built into the Pro and really delivers some great framerates at high detail levels. https://github.com/mbucchia/Meta-Foveated
Mr_sukebe Posted July 10, 2023 Author Posted July 10, 2023 I’ve now got my QP running with DFR. As you say, looks great and runs well, so I’m a very happy bunny. It was also far less painful than the Pico4, which I had 2 of. The visuals of the Pico were also great, but I really struggled to maintain good connectivity and found it an utter pain to configure. There are some caveats worth mentioning: - I don’t find it as comfortable as my old Rift S to wear. I’m going to put together a padded head strap to use - the design of the QP allows some configuration of the distance of the lenses from your eyes, which is a great way to enable the use of glasses, which I do wear. However I find that using glasses with it results in the need to physically configure them too exactly for my liking, resulting in me suffering a little from eye strain. I’ve already ordered what a believe will resolve, ie lens inserts from VRopticians. - So far so good on the link connection via USB, which hasn’t lost connection and helps to keep the battery powered. It’s just a bit of a shame that Meta won’t release a QP with DP connectivity, whilst having stripped out the battery and capability for stand-alone use 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

A huge upgrade in comfort over the stock pads. 2 Slugmouse: a finger-mounted mouse button emulator for hand-tracked VR cockpit clicking. Available now! Slugmouse Demonstration Video
kerlcat Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I also planned to buy QP replacing my Rift S to utilize my investment in Oculus(Meta). But its low spec of resolution and lack of DP connection pushed me to Pico as it’s so damn bargain v.s.even significantly reduced $1000. Anyway this gen is for transitional use. Mr_sukebe Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Quick update on progress: The lens inserts have arrived from VRoptician, which helps as I find it more comfortable to use those instead of glasses. I've used VRoptician for lenses for my Rift S and the Pico 4 (which was returned) and find they're generally great. Unfortunately, whilst the lenses themselves are great, their method to attach is frankly a bit pants and whilst getting the headset in place, I find them moving about. Definitely going to need to find a better solution for keeping them fixed The Oculus software has been good. Not yet had a dropped connection with my wired setup Battery life whilst plugged in has been fine. Just finished a 90 min session and have 2/3 charge left I'm using the Dynamic Foveated rendering solution for both DCS and FS2020, as provided by M. Awesome stuff Visuals, oh yes, they're ace, once I'm correctly wearing the headset. The only negatives I could really complain about were the vibrancy level out of the box. I've used the OpenXR Toolkit to tone that down a little (to 48) and also the red level to 48. Seems much better Putting it on, hmm, less good. I've already mentioned about my lens inserts. The other real bugbear that I currently have is getting it comfortable. Clearly it's a very personal thing as I've seen plenty of comments that they found it very comfortable. For myself, that's just not the case. I tried the MRTV suggestion of inverting the rear pad. For me, that was MUCH worse. The most important part appears to be ensuring the front pad is sitting appropriately. I've also improvised a front to back over the head strap. I've got an elasticated "cinch" strap arriving today. Hopefully that will help. Right now, I find my old Rift S significantly more comfortable, though I couldn't go back to those visuals 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
Mr_sukebe Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 I think I've solved the comfort issue. Just taken delivery of a pack of 4 zeltauto 20" cinch straps. Basically, they're fairly wide elastic straps, I assume for holding luggage together. Either way, they make lovely and very cheap straps for the top of the QP. Cost was just £11 for 4. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
markturner1960 Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Hey Mike, glad to see you are liking the QP, I love mine, even though I have had a torrid time getting it set up and troubleshooting a cable issue.....DCS never looked so good and I have even basically swapped to using VR all the time now.....previously, I was using a mix of 2D and VR, but its so great usingthe Pro, I use it all the time now! I also really like the way its not clamped on your face and just hangs in front of your eyes, letting you peek around if needed......
