Radar Mode A2 doesn't work (MT+ST) (when no waypoint is available)

The key point is that it doesn't attempt to scan the waypoint, it just scans at the same range as the waypoint.

Maybe this little sentence will be going to make into the manual I think.

I think this can help to understand - maybe 😅

Description of diagrams

Upper part is a very precise representation 🤣 of the CI in B-Scope scanning mode.
Below the CI an hypothetical profile of the terrain (also very accurate haha).
Then in the central part our beloved Viggen, which by setting the radar at 15 km gradually approaches the B-scope scanning area.

Consider the Viggen always at high altitude in order to not have hidden ground amongst the reliefs.

Case 1: moving towards waypoint b1

In this case, given that only what is included in the 10km of the B-Scope area is represented on the CI, we need to subtract what remains behind the aircraft as it approaches the upper limit of the B-Scope area, keeping this upper bound fixed in the CI.

Thus in the CI we see the image disappear from the bottom upwards (in the schema below from left to right).

Case 2: waypoint b1 passed but the pilot reselects it

In this case, I have done several tests and it seems to me that the following happens.

Given that -also here- only what is included in the 10km of the B-Scope area is represented on the CI, as the aircraft approaches we need to subtract what goes further between the upper limit of the B-Scope area and the radar scanning range limit adopted by the aircraft at that moment (in my example 15km).
So as the Viggen approaches the upper bound of the B-Scope scan area, in the CI we see the image disappear from top to bottom (in the schema below from right to left).

It's very complex to explain for me, this is my try. Is it correct @MYSE1234?

Thank you!

Sure!

"Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5. Above Mach 5 is hypersonic. And reentry from space, well, that's like Mach a lot."

Guys, would you be happy with that section on page 97:

Sure @TOViper, thx a lot!

Maybe you can evaluate to add this image to help "visualize" 😉

Pretty good. I think you should remove all the quotation marks.  The last sentence about the four borders could be simplified too.  I suggest something like:

Quote

The B-scope displays a vertical extent about the range of the selected waypoint from -4 km on the near side to +6 km on the far side, and +/-20 deg horizontally.

"Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5. Above Mach 5 is hypersonic. And reentry from space, well, that's like Mach a lot."

Thanks guys for your quick feedback!!

@Machalot:

You meant:
The B-scope displays a vertical extent about the range of the selected waypoint from -4 km on the near side to +6 km on the far side, and +/-20 deg horizontally.

I had to correct this, since its -6 and +4!

I thought A2 would scan in the forward area from 1000m to 10000m ahead of the aircraft, no matter if there is a waypoint or not.

So it works or not? I'm discovering Viggen again in connection with Kola maps ;).

Please see my video (recorded from VR), Im on B-scope and A2:

I already did a complete DCS repair, removed mods, I thought something was wrong. Still the same. Im not sure its a bug, or something else or here this part is completely useless. Uninstalled and istalled AJS37 as well. Still the same. Btw. No issue with A1 mode, also terrain avoidance works well. Just this A2 drives me crazy 😁.

1/ reflections from B-scope mode sometimes are visible on 30 scale only, sometimes at 15 and sometimes on 60 km. So on 60 it works, on 30 the picture is empty (why?)

2/ I have the impression that the image does not move forward (like aircraft), but is as if stopped and scanned, see this (before I saw the whole this part map, the lake was on the top):

ScLZ463.jpg

When I started to be close, on CI display part of the dispaly started to be empty, the lake was on the same place:

uemPV5R.jpg

3/ sometimes you can't see anything at all, and when you switch to 15 the image is clear

LAMH3tJ.jpg

Have I missed something or is this how it's supposed to be or its a bug? (btw. I didnt study this topic yet, noticed now, before to add the question on different topic)

Note: For the B-scope, a waypoint in the vicinity of the area of interest is necessary!
Otherwise, the B-scope may not display any returns.

Ahh, so its ok, it shows only selected waypoint area as fixed picture returns!?

Edit. Ok, I checked and works like this, so I had different imagination about A2 mode (moving always with the aircraft), now its clear. Good option eventually togheter with a fix shift for targets or waypoints!

When you're in terrain avoidance mode, A2 does move with the aircraft and ignores the waypoints.

It was in my post, here no issue, works fine.

Sometimes it's good to read the manual (and forum here!), because I wanted to install the entire DCS thinking that something is wrong 😆.

Re-install you mean? Just perform a full repair. It's the same as a brand new plain vanilla installation, except it won't touch Saved Games, and your mods in it.
