GAJ52 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I have had Black Shark for about a week now and have read and watched most of the training material available. I am attempting to complete the Clear Tkvarcheli mission but every time I get near the town I pop up slowly over a hill (have tried from every direction) then get taken out by Sams or Manpads. My wingman is suicidal, if I give him a target he goes flying in like a bull in a china shop and promptly gets shot down. I have been trying this mission for the past two days without success, has anyone got any tips or could they loan me a more sensible wing man for the day. sobek Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Welcome to the forum  Getting downed by a manpad tells me you're way too close, back off a bit. When starting an attack with vikhrs, you want to be at about 5-6km from the target, that should give you a chance to take out the sams. I don't know the actual mission, but when you've taken care of any sams and heavy armor, you can move in to about 4-3.8 km and start harassing the manpads with your gun. After that you're good to go on light armor and soft targets with rockets or the gun. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Jack57 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Ah yes, that's one wicked mission! I played it many times while learning the weapons sytems. It's hard enough even with labels as many of the targets are hidden between buildings. You just have to work around the compass, take your time, and find the angles. Like sobek says, keep your distance, and use the hills to ground any sams that get launched at you. Don't worry if the convoy gets to town as they will defend themselves quite well. Zembla Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I know the hill he's hiding behind I think :p In the distance there's an Avenger AA unit. At least, it was so when I last played it, and I'm not sure if the unit placement is randomized in that mission. In any case, if you're behind the hill, all it takes is dropping behind the hill again once the missiles are inbound. The nice thing is, depending on how high you go, you can still use the cover of the hill to shield you from more than half of the baddies, and take out the ranged nasty ones first. In any case, trial and error, it's one of the ways to learn the game :p -Z [sigpic][/sigpic] I aaaaaam ... a banana!
GAJ52 Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 Thanks guys for your help :) I managed to complete the mission by staying further back until the big stuff was taken out, then managed to use rockets and guns for the softer targets. I turned on labels so I could see if everything was destroyed then returned to base. Should I get a message confirming the mission was successfully completed. As nothing appeared I just shut down and pressed escape, bit of an anti climax after 2 days trying to complete this mission. ZoomBoy27 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 You can look at the Mission status by hitting the QUOTE key - %completed Maybe Mission designers can remember to put a message when you land Not easy I think ZoomBoy My Flight Sims Page - Link to My Blog - Sims and Things - DCS Stuff++ - Up-to-Speed Guides to the old Lockon A10A and Su-25T - Some missions [needs update]
Weta43 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) Yes, sorry - I forgot the "mission accomplished" message. If any of the convoy make it through town to the overbridge, and you're still alive - you've passeed, if they all make it - you've done well :-) In the distance there's an Avenger AA unit. At least, it was so when I last played it, and I'm not sure if the unit placement is randomized in that mission. It is - there's a reasonable amount of randomisation in that mission - I doubt you'll have seen it all... Edited June 20, 2009 by Weta43 Cheers.
JasBird Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I've been struggling with this mission aswell. Really hard to find targets. This time I just followed the road(to Tkvarcheli) after take off and cleared my way flying low up to the town. Stayed on the southside and cleared everything I could and watching the convoy and providing cover. Anyways I belive the convoy consist of 4 vehicles and I followed them personally all the way back to the FARP, but I got 0% mission complete? I belive I've seen a few cross the bridge previously in a mission aswell, but I taught I had to get alteast the 2 truck safe back, but no luck. Also my wingman keeps dropping flares. If we get a lock and I go low for cover I keep hearing him dropping flares? He probably goes until he's empty. Also I noticed the wingman will not land, but just stand outside the helipads in low hover and wait, even if I give him RTB. Not sure if this happens just in this mission? And no I did not take his landing spot :) In another attempt I took his landing pad, but this time I let him pick first, still he just stands there. Is there some mission conditions I've missed? Tricky mission. Also I had another mission 75% success, but logbok says missions 0?? Cheers
LastRifleRound Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Decided I'd resurrect this thread, as even after reading this, i'm having trouble completing this mission. There is a Hawk SAM in the town that I have a hard time taking out. I have no trouble ducking behind cover when missiles are inbound, but i can never seem to be able to be above the hill long enough to fire off a vikhr without getting nailed with a SAM. Anyone know the best way to knock out this SAM? The SHORAD are no sweat with my range advantage, but that Hawk is nasty
martinistripes Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Also having problems here. I've tried both methods flying in fast and low with guns and rockets and also standing off with missiles. With guns and rockets I fail to get the crosshairs on targets before getting gunned down, if I stand off I just cannot for the life of me spot any targets. The trees hide everything. Again advice appreciated. Valve Index | RTX 4080 (Mobile) | i9-14900HX @ 2.20 GHz | 32GB RAM

Dusty Rhodes Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Try a different angle/position of attack. Remember the HAWK radar is directional and not 360 degree's. LukeFF Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Just wanted to pop in and say this is a really good mission. I kept getting whacked over and over again, until I finally learned this last time to back off and hit targets from farther away. Unfortunately, I managed to find only one LAV-25, and then I let my wingman take out the AA assets he had found via recon. Will be playing this one more to see if I can get better at it.
Arne Anka Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Time to revive this thread, my problem is slightly.... different. I almost always manage to kill all units in town, I send wingman to recce, he does not find anything, I fly though town, can't see any, and are not getting shot at. So, I RTB to FARP, get landing clearance, and land. Mission success: 0%. What am I doing wrong? The only thing I do different that the others in this thread is that I back off, increase altitude to 1000-1500 m, and start taking out units this way. Can this result in me failing the mission? Arne Anka Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 See post 7 Nope, does not work... The convoy makes it, often with one casuality, to my FARP, and then park there. After that, if I does not have any enemies left, I request landing permission and land. Mission accomplished: 0% :helpsmilie: Intel Duo E8500 | 4 Gb RAM | HD4850 x 2 Crossfire | Vista Home
sinelnic Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Uhm... re-read post 7... first line... zdXu Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) The briefing says near (north west of) Tkvarcheli operates friendly vehicles. Avoid friendly fire and identify these friendly vehicles with 100% certainty it would be very realistic when the briefing gives the pilots some more information about these friendly vehicles: how many, what sort of vehicles, position etc... But dont know if the vehicles are shown in the ABRIS though. Haven't done this mission, just have read the briefing. Edited January 5, 2010 by zdXu
TAIPAN_ Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 What's the range of the HAWK sam units? I tried Dragon's operation pushback last night and those HAWKs had a severe desire to kill me, smoke trails coming constantly and it seemed like it was about 8k. zdXu Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Some discrepancies between briefing and mission-reality: - briefing says there a Shorads, armored personnel carriers and troop-trucks. But a HAWK air defence system is not a SHORAD system. Its a mid range air defence system with a range up to 20 - 25 km. A SHORAD system has a range only up to 10 km. This is clearly a misinformation. (Ok in addition the briefing says further details of the enemy convoy is unknown. Maybe that is the important info.) - briefing says town "Novaya Akcaskia". The spelling is wrong.
Weta43 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Ok in addition the briefing says further details of the enemy convoy is unknown. Maybe that is the important info. that is the important info... Cheers.
zdXu Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Another question: At the railway-station of Tkvarcheli there stands a train which has loaded 5 or more tanks. I dont know if these tanks on the train are active or not. The tanks could be a possible threat for me if the insurgents enter these tanks: MG-fire, possible tank-shells etc. => Am i "allowed" to take out this train (loaded with tanks)? <= (i am in the middle of the mission. So no spoilers please.)
slug88 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Tanks loaded on trains are non-threats, and in fact are probably spawned randomly (the mission designer didn't put them in there, they were generated because you have 'civilian traffic' enabled). If you think about it, IRL they probably wouldn't be rail transporting tanks with their crews and ammunition inside... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
zdXu Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 My suggestion for this mission: To prevent a lot of confusions add audio-signals to all cockpit-messages so no one will miss situation-reports in the cockpit. Played the mission and i got this: - 06:30 entered the cockpit: edited/changed/moved waypoints, navigationpoints on the abris & pvi-800 system. - 06:50(ca.) take off. Did some basic tests with the wingman. Orderd him to land on the FARP. - 07:02 left the FARP-area without wingman. - 07:18 got a first view on the combat-scenery (at Tkvarcheli). Saw a lot wrecks and thought these wrecks must be the rest of the battle when the insurgents took over Tkvarcheli some days before. ... Then Searching & Hiding Searching & Hiding. Searching & Hiding. ... After hours i realized that in Tkvarcheli were no Midrange-AAA-HAWK-system installed and only 2 intact insurgent-vehicles were left. After-action-report: the ambulance-convoy started at 06:58 with the battle in Tkvarcheli. 07:08 the battle was over. The ambulance convoy was fully destoyed, but the convoy took out 90% of the insurgent-assets. I got a first view to the battlefield 10 minutes after all actions took place...
Weta43 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 "To prevent a lot of confusions add audio-signals to all cockpit-messages so no one will miss situation-reports in the cockpit." You mean this one - that for you must have appeared at about 17 minutes ? (by which time you should have been well into your work :-) Kapel: "501, Kapel: Relaying message from convoy leader. Convoy departed. Estimated transit time to Tkvarcheli 10 minutes." The railway station at Tkvarcheli is 7.5Km from the FARP you leave from, and it took 48 minutes to start & get there ? You're supposed to be clearing the way for a convoy of gravely injured civillians - you're in a hurry ! (so you should try to use your wingman effectively...) Cheers.
