I have ordered an RTX4090, but I'm not sure the result will be better than the 3080 due to the CPU I have.
It is an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, and I'm afraid it might be even worse if I get badly CPU bottleneck.
You's have any idea if improvement or worse?

You‘re fps will almost double, relax.

A 5900X is no bottleneck. (*per se)

everything is a bottle neck sooner or later.. i moved from a 3090 to a 4090 no regrets, with a intel 12700k... assuming you have your pc hygiene sorted, you will have no problems with an improvement in overall performance, it certainly shouldn't be any worse

Even if you end up CPU limited in certain situations you can still crank up GPU related settings like pixel density in VR etc. without penalty.

Exactly. Everything post-processing and lighting related can go  right up to the max if you want, too.

Even using a 13900K I’m pretty sure I am CPU limited in many situations. For example a free flight over Cairo etc. but I’m still running max settings otherwise.

Running 5800x3d.  Upgrade from 3090 to 4090 took fps up 75 to 200 percent on my triple 1440p setup, depending on map and situation; and DCS frametime counter still reports GPU as limiting factor in multithreaded DCS.

You're in for a treat.

I upgraded from a 3080 to a 4080 with a 5800X and saw a high improvement of my FPS (appr. 40-50% @3x1440p). Today it varies, if the CPU or the GPU is limiting. On a crowded server like 4YA I see my GPU not utilized by 100% (more like 60-70%). Here a faster CPU would help. On own created MP (non-complex) missions the GPU is at 100% all the time. So no CPU limit at all. Today I´m using the MT exe exclusively which benefits better from more cores. So I guess you will not see any issues with your 4090 and damned, I´m jealous 🤣 Enjoy it as much as you can.

Thanks!
It got a lot better. The most frustrating "anomalies" are reduced significantly.
I also cranked up som eyecandy, but MSAA is still an achilles heal.
Forget 4X.

Really? Then you seem to have very high fps needs/standards.

I mean, I don’t use 4x for I don’t really feel the need (4K), but I certainly could.

Mind to share your gfx settings and fps?

I just want to roll into turns smoothly. That gives me a great sense of speed and thus immersion.
Choppy rolls is a huge turnoff. Pun intended. 🙂
I found that ST runs smoother than MT, but I have difficulties because it does not start in VR. ..starting in pancake mode if you whish.
Running repair as I speak.. (Well, write)

Edit: Well that did not help. Still starting in pancake mode..
Earlier it started with Steam, so I removed SteamVR.
[Insert profanity]

Ah, sorry. You were talking about VR. I missed that. Different animal. Can't really offer much expertise with that.

4090 Aero

I play in VR and I still can get 40 FPS low or on the ground and all maps very and how you set up the VR will matter I run a HP Reverb G2 no Steam use Turbo mode setup will require help. Sorry I didn't read what you have (VR headset)so you can get help from people here easy. For Me I say I got about 20 to 25 % improvement overall and CPU in MT and DCS not having it working to us ALL Threads (LAST I CHECKED) makes it kind of on the low reason to play now for me. I kind of get not so into it for now but I have to jump in with every patch to check it out. My BIG drive is not as powerful as before because of MT and then the HUEY (my Love) i'm just on PAUSE till things change. Wow I need to change. 😀

Thx, goodfolk!
Yes I got improved framerate even with the eyecandy increased: Ultra view distance, 150% render scale etc..
But the microstutter is still there when looking to left or right. Wobbling cockpit is mostly gone.
I sure hope DCS 4.9 has some further MT optimization. DCS can choke any supercomputer as it is today.

Microstutter (at least, that what I would define as such) is usually not caused by a lack of performance, but some kind of "interference" of either hard- or software. Therefore you can't bruteforce your way through it unfortunately.
There is a multitude of possible culprits, which makes it so hard to wack. Unmatching polling/refresh rates, hardware interrupts, software interrupts, background processes, the OS, capability of the display hardware...etc.

Just look at the rabbit hole that is TrackIR-Microstutter-Discussion.

Its a rabbit hole because there is no other solution than to lower graphics quality until it's gone. Unacceptable to many people, having seen the "good stuff"
So one seek "exotic" solutions. Lots of placebo going on.
Maybe unfair, but MSFS has no such phenomena, all settings on ultra.
