Just started messing around with carrier ops and to my surprise my 1st attempt was pretty good. However, the only feedback i got was in the message history? LSO: GRADE NC : No proper communications. The message in the top right corner should appear for a while just after successful trap. It also gets noted in the debriefing either in game (default " ' " key) or after the mission.
