A software interface that enables applications (application layer) to „talk“ to the hardware in a standardized way without actually addressing it directly. Vulkan is supposed to have less overhead and being „faster“. DCS is a DirectX11 Application. Re-composing it for Vulkan is quite a task and ED is working on it for some time now.
