hassata Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 for me the problem is the opposite LOL-I cant turn Vsync off-anway I doubt I'll hit over 85 in Bs, and FF5 in campaign is 60ish, so I can live with it. Something is definetly off with Vsync, Nvidia and Vista 64 SP2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EtherealN Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Hassata, doublecheck in your nVidia control panel (or nHancer if you are running that) to ensure that you don't have it forced in either of those. 71st_Mastiff Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 you can go back to 8.11 drivers thats the last before they made big changes to stop V sync and and open gl 24bit availablity. thats what im using and they are working great. Safari Ken Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Any LCD monitor cannot display higher FPS than its refresh rate........so............if your monitor has a refresh rate of 60, that will explain your capping at 60. Well, that's the whole idea of V-Sync. A frame rate higher than your refresh rate does you no good (and indeed, makes things worse, what with the tearing), but the games don't know that. I can get frame rates higher than my refresh rate on pretty much every game nowadays. Without V-Sync I've seen Black Shark frame rates as high as 80 or 85, along with the requisite drop in image quality. I have Fraps running full-time on my keyboard LCD, so I can keep close tabs on the fps. That said, Black Shark is a demanding enough game that it's not like my frame rates are that high under normal circumstances, but for the times they are, it's well worth it to turn on V-Sync. Like I said, that tearing is just awful, and it's 10x worse now that I have a TrackIR.
Washer UK Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I changed C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Config\Graphics line 355 to 60 that worked as far as I can tell, dont forget the Notepad++ tho!! Q6600 3.2Ghz, 4G DDR2 1066, ATI 4870, x52, TrackIR 4, Vista 64
JG14_Smil Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 line #355 of the ka-50\config\graphics.lua has the maxFPS setting. (oops) doh! sorry for the double post of the answer
Slayer Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 You guys are kind of confused on Vsync.... Vsync on = sync to the monitors vertical refresh rate. Turning it off allows the higher framerates because its not locked to the vertical refresh rate. By default almost every application or game has vsync turned on. In Vista MS made it a WHQL requirement at the driver level that vsync is turned on. It can only be switched off in an application or game that is coded to have a setting to allow it to be turned on or off. The setting you see on the Nvidia performance page only pertains to OpenGL ( it even says this if you select the option and look at the help text below) As far as I understand it BS is not an OpenGl application and there is no setting from within the game to enable or disable Vsync...so unless you have some kind of hack like nhancer or rivatuner there is no way to turn it off for BS. EtherealN Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Actually Slayer, that sounds a bit strange from my experience - I had upper-limit FPS around 70-100 for empty maps until I forced V-sync on through nHancer. After that it synced up to my 60Hz screen. (Had to force it due to monstrous tearing when using TrackIR.) I'm only just started on my morning coffee though so I may be misreading stuff. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
hassata Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 Something weird is going on, but my experience is in-line with Slayer's analysis. No way for me to activate vsync, even through nhancer, with vista 64 and latet nvidia drivers. cant go past 85 with FF5 and DCS BS. Rivatuner has a fix for ati cards which 'hijacks' th vista process. Slayer says there is no way to switch Vsync off and you can't switch it on. How goes that in line? A language thing, maybe? I have no problem switching it on and off with Vista, my 8800 GTS running with 182.06 drivers. Not even experiences that difficulty by gaming-profile.
