Sweet, I want to do a little texture experiment to add the mesh grating to the Elevators and also change the shape of the FWD to match real life.  I’ll keep you guys posted as usual, see how like it.

Welcome to the update Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.2!

This update brings a few changes with it:
First, the USS Enterprise got support for lights at night.
Second, the USS Bon Homme Richard and Generic Essex carriers with SCB125 upgrade got updated parking positions, so planes drive in reverse to the parking. Unfortunately the result is not always great - some positions the planes wiggle for and back. We're working on further improvements to this, but with the carrier plugin gone from ModelViewer it's quite some work.
Third, the livery names were normalized and start with the ship designation in brackets (e.g. (DD-728)).

The update only contains the changed assets and not the complete mod. You need to install Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.0, then update to Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.1, and finally this update Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.2 can be installed.

Hmm, ok, I used the Forrestal as reference, and there they are lit. Any reference that shows how the Enterprise should properly look at night?

On Work in Progress, yeah, of course we are aware of the many imperfections and while we aim to resolve most of them, realistically we will never be able to fix them all...

Ah, I see, they are lit by the front flightdeck lights I guess. I don't recall rigging any lights for the numbers specifically. Or maybe it's a self illuminated texture, will have to check.

Oh, Maybe that's what I am seeing an extra bright Texture color.  It almost looked like they were lit.  Disregard if that's the case.

Hi,

testers @seabat and @toan encountered a problem with CVA-31 Bon Homme Richard and the generic Essex with SCB125 upgrade: It is not present in the Mission Editor under some circumstances. Troubleshooting this situation revealed that the CVA-31 mod needs to be without any other VWV mods in the tech folder and then it will no longer work. Reason is, that the config lua for CVA-31 calls a table WSN_t at place 20, which is nil in the base game.

We plan to push out hotfix Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.3 either later today or tomorrow to overcome the situation that the Bon Homme Richard does not work standalone. For the impatient, add these lines before the weapons definitions in cva31.lua :

This is an update for CVA-31 Bon Homme Richard and the generic Essex class carriers with SCB125 upgrade. Testing discovered that the Bon Homme Richard does no longer work when used without other Vietnam War Vessels mods. A definition in a table was missing, and the new config rectifies this.

For installation, you need Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.0, update to 2.0.1, update to 2.0.2 and then apply this update.

Right now, no such plans. We'll try to add pylons for fuel tanks to the RF-101B Voodoo and then there are a bunch of other assets to rig...

That's a shame, please excuse me for being something of a "rivet counter" but the variant used during the Vietnam War was the RF-101C.  The RF-101B didn't see service during the Vietnam War, as they entered service too late (early 1970's) to participate.  But, a Voodoo is a Voodoo, and very grateful I am for any AI additions to DCS.

Fully agreed - blame is on me for purchasing the wrong base model. Right now there's another modding team working on a RF-101C though. And to put things into perspective: 

1. I got the RF-101B from cgtrader late November 2024
2. It took a while to evaluate the model and compare it with blueprints and photos
3. Re-modelling of the plane took until summer 2025
4. Rigging the model has been an ongoing task since then

So even if we decide to transform the RF-101B into a RF-101C, give and take it will be a 6 months to a year before this is done.

At the same time we have a bunch of other models in the pipeline - different designs altogether. Given that the team is primarily constrained on time, I prefer to chase other planes and ships for now. Also keep in mind that it can get tiring to work on the same mesh and config day after day. After all, this is a hobby for the team, not a job.

Lastly, it might be helpful to get some feedback on the RF-101B once it's released as AI asset, to see where the deficits are and not make the same mistakes with a related model

Hi @TeTeT thanks for this fantastic pack that You and the team giving to us. B-57 is definitely needed. RF-101B Voodo will be good substitute for RF-101C.

Note that the model costs are often not that high in comparison to software licenses and even worse, the hardware to get the job done. For example the Substance Painter license from Adobe ranges between 24.99 USD and 59.99 USD per month, depending on how many extra tools you want.

TeTet, in all honesty, a Voodoo is a Voodoo.  The 101B being such a rare aircraft, I think it's fantastic that we will have it in DCS, so thank you very much.  Great news to hear that the 101C is being worked on by another group.  We are all being spoiled.  Thank you for your reply

Hi,

we have now assembled Vietnam War Vessels 2.1.0 and are testing it internally first. The RF-101B Voodoo will be included, but there is still stuff todo:

KNOWN LIMITATIONS RF-101B

• The landing gear doors and covers don't close perfectly
• The landing gear suspension is not animated
• The BORT number should be five digits, not three
• The pilot is generic rather than specific for the Voodoo. Development of a custom Voodoo pilot is out of financial reach, if interested in sponsoring one contact TeTeT
• There are no pylons present currently, not even for fuel tanks
• The front gear is not animated for turning
