English Flight Controllers

Could we please have a traditional Flight Controller with an English accent?

It doesn’t make a lot of sense for me to be sitting at Hawkinge, Detling nor Manston in an RAF Spitfire, Mossie etc. and be greeted by an American voice that sounds, well, modern, and just.. not what’s right and proper old bean.

Same goes for the voice I’m supposedly shouting for ground crew to “Run the starter” from in the Mossie. Could we have an English accent? He’d likely be asking to prime the engines instead, wouldn’t he?

ATCs voice should really be that of an Englishman. Pilots maybe American, Canadian, Polish etc. but Controllers, please?

No way to have it from ED as long as DCS is still limited to single global set of ATC voice samples for each side (red/blue). 

As a custom mod, however, to be enabled/disabled at will via OvGME whenever you need to switch back to stock voices for other planes? It could be done I'm sure if you find a modder willing to work on it.

SFC Tako used to have custom language ATC voices in his DCS videos, but he deletd his YT channel it seems, so it's not possible to check what mods he used. You can always PM him, though.

Shame it isn’t something ED sorted out. It’s all a bit half-arsed most of the time anyhow. “Run the starter” doesn’t kick off animated ground crew with trolley-accs and I’ve yet to be given clearance to take off, land or anything else in any accent.

I’ll do it in my head.

Happy to volunteer as an English speaker with an English accent. Chocks away, Tally Ho and pip, pip etc.

I understand just scripting different scenarios would take a lot of work. Write Qcumbers name down somewhere for future reference then . Glad it’s being considered, cheers.

Some of the old controllers became legendary among active pilots. RAF Hornchurch had a veteran pilot from the First World War on the blower. Even during the height of the Battle of Britain scrambles his matter of fact, almost droll way of encouraging the chaps to ‘get a bit of a move on, if they’d be so kind’  lasted long in the memory years after it was all over. Shame on me I can’t remember his name now, will give me an excuse to look at the bookshelf.

Would love to see some animated ground crew too, another big job but would really set the scene. I know, I don’t want much do I .

Already done that as requested by Polychop and got lots of grief for it when the module was released! It was exactly what Polychop said they wanted, but people were complaining that "people don't talk that way any more!".

Thank you - there were quite a few complaints, though. Didn't really bother me, but the guy who made the campaign got some flak, which riled me a bit. It was all a tongue-in-cheek thing.

Well, the campaign is excellent, and the voice overs makes it stand out as different. Not sure if everything still works after all these years, maybe we'll see an update when the Kiowa is released. It was a multiplayer capable campaign for most of the missions IIRC. Does memory serve me right if it was the Fragger's brother who made it?

For the life of me I can't remember his forum name - only his real name. He is French - he did all the French character's voices, I did all the different British voices and someone else did the one American character. It was a lot of fun and got me on to do voice work for a couple of other devs. Took up many hours but as I enjoyed it so much, it didn't matter to me.

It was very nice to be given 'inside access' to guys in the dev team as well, and was very enjoyable talking to them on Skype about their work and upcoming projects at the time. Seems an age ago now.

 

*just looked right back to 2016 Gazelle posts and slapping my head as i see his name!

Really don't know if he's Fragger's brother, though.

I just found this post and I take it from that, that it does indeed still work, even though it was made for 1.5

I'm sure I've seen people saying they can't complete the campaign due to bugs, but no idea if they were individual cases or not.

Yeah I remember quite well your style when recording the audios, was a lot of fun to be honest and it sounded exactly the way a french like me can imagine a pure tea drinker british  For the american voices I ended doing them myself if I do well remember.
