Flatscreen menus, VR gameplay

Similar to Falcon BMS, how about implementing flatscreen for menus, mission editor, multiplayer server list etc and switch only to VR when launching the mission? There’s no need for the things mentioned to be in VR and personally I find it annoying trying to setup for a mission with friends in VR.

The civvy sim allows instant and seamless switching between VR and flat.  This would be a huge QoL improvement for DCS.  There are no benefits from running the menus and ME in VR, and I wish they would swap the low-poly Su-27 & hangar for a model which matches the chosen wallpaper theme too, but that's another issue.

What you are asking is the next level....
What op asking are the basics...
Both things have been requested multiple times, let's see what happens.
Personally I would like to have all the menu and preparation 2d only, similar to the other f16 simulator, and the mission in VR.

Agreed, that alone would be a huge improvement.

Not for me, if they made this change it should be optional. Don't want to be taking headset on and off and on and off and screen is not in a convenient place for frequent use in relation to built out sim cockpit. Having a 2d / 3d mix is VR done poorly.

You dont need to take off the headset, it would work in desktop mode on your headset

Exactly, If you don't want to take your headset off its ok....You have just a 2d screen inside your headset. Then when you do enter the mission, everything  is in normal VR.
But, having the  possibility to use mission planner, mission editor, reading the briefing and so on, in 2d would be optimal for many of us
