I'm in the process of making comparison GIF for all aircraft. So far, I made 6 of them and I can tell you that:

HUD boldness is not affected by resolution for the following aircraft:

  • JF-17 (the result is very clean)
  • A-10C
  • Ka-50 (the result is poor because characters are much too bold, whatever the resolution)
  • EDIT: AH-64

HUD boldness is indeed affected by resolution for the following aircraft:

  • AV-8B
  • F-16
  • F/A-18C
  • EDIT: F-15E affected too, even though it's less striking

I stand corrected about the AV-8B.

This GIF method is the best I could find to demonstrate the issue (even to myself). Thanks for pushing me harder when it's needed, gents. 👍

Once I'm finished, I'll report all affected aircraft individually.

JF-17-nochange.gif

A10-nochange.gif

AV8.gif

F16.gif

Ka50-nochange.gif

F18.gif

If you look at my video, the HUD has thinner lines than the GIFs at lower resolutions. The GIFs are still thick. The only module that was not affected was the Mirage 2000C.

Once the FOV goes over 75° the HUD and MFD elements/text becomes very fuzzy/fat as if they're not scaling properly.

This is by no means a solely F-16 problem but it's very obvious with the F-16.

There's already a topic about this as this is general problem within DCS

Thanks for the link, although they're coming at the problem from the angle of differing resolutions, it doesn't hurt to keep nudging the issue.

This will never be fixed. Unfortunately!

The only module that is not affected by this is the Mirage 2000C. Razbam did an excellent job with that.

Is that just pessimism or an actual technical brick wall?

Either way I made a vid so I may as well post it 😊

OH for sure. The more info they get, the better. Hopefully this showcases the issue a lot better than a simple resolution change.

@Flappie Can you show this to the devs? It might help them with debugging/triggering the issue

This is a problem that multiple modules have had for many years now, and it doesn't appear that fixes will be coming anytime soon.
Luckily, in the meantime, fixes already exist for several aircraft in the form of file edits, you just have to search for them in the user files section.
