Check out Jabbers last video on Youtube. He demonstrates how multithreading can increase stutters by blasting the disk with texture (shader) requests. He uses CPU affinity to limit the cores used by DCS. This is why it appears to some that HT off in the bios works better: fewer cores hitting the disk for textures. I think the happy medium is to enable HT, and limit the cores used by the sim. However, I don't use CPU affinity, I just keep my missions light weight. Jabbers loads up a massive mission for his testing. Edited May 11, 2024 by Glide
Flappie Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 @lovethewayoumove I wouldn't use MSI Afterburner if I were you. In the past, several users with such issues found out that the cause was MSI Afterburner. Disable it completely and see what you get. Don't use it as long as you're having your issue. In your last video, I see your FPS is around "60" when your actual rame rate is way less than that. Usually, the FPS counter in DCS is reliable, but it doesn't seem so in your case. This makes me think your problem could be located between your GPU and your screen. You might want to test another video cable, or simply disable any G-Sync/Freesync/Whateversync setting you find on your monitors. While you're at it, disable V-Sync in both your GPU settings and DCS settings for now. Another lead: I see you have two screens. What happens if only one is connected? Is it better or not at all? If you haven't done so yet, try these steps: ---

Probably more the settings you use inside Afterburner than Afterburner itself. I may be wrong (sample size too small of course), but I would consider Afterburner one of the least offensive/problematic background applications of them all. Of course there is no harm in trying it without. I‘m just really surprised by that…. "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Here is an example: Another example related to MSI Dragon Center: Even if such software may not be the root cause of a performance issue, it complicates the diagnosis. I for one don't use these "gaming" software (I have other examples with Razor Synapse and Corsair iCue). I trust Windows, the GPU driver and DCS to run my GPU correctly. In my opinion, the more intermediaries, the more issues one may encounter. So yes, when someone comes to me with an awful framerate, I say get rid of what is not mandatory, at least until everything comes back to normal. 1 ---

Because… …I think I heard someone say that there are rumours that it might be possible that - excluding DCS From Windows Defender - disabling Windows HAGS - disabling various other Windows stuff can solve a couple of DCS problems. I’m with Hiob here: Putting Afterburner on the blacklist for a stable DCS experience makes me scratch my head...
Flappie Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 (edited) Most of the solutions I list were provided by affected users. When someone is in trouble, I give him/her that list in the hope it might help. I for one never had any issue with or without HAGS (it's On on my PC). Defender is as annoying as any other antivirus because scanning files takes time and prevents the sim from accessing these, which results in slow loading times. I added DCS as an exception, but here I think DCS is the problem, because I've never done so for any other game. So again, I don't blame Windows here either. I never had to disable any Windows service on my PC for DCS to work correctly. One of my friend did and it solved his problem completely. Why not sharing this as it may help others? I was trying to help, especially since I was pinged by OP, but I feel a lot of hostility here, so I'm leaving the thread right now and won't return. May someone help @lovethewayoumove to get rid of his performance issues. Edited May 12, 2024 by Flappie typo 3 ---

I‘m rather deep into all that overclocking and tweaking stuff and never heard of issues caused by Afterburner. I completely agree with you on the likes of iCue, Razor and (worst offender of them all - all things logitech), but they‘re another ballpark than Afterburner. Nevermind, I don’t want to de-rail the topic. As I said, when there are problems to solve, everything should be tried, especially when it is so easily done. Eliminating as many variables as possible is definitely a good troubleshooting strategy. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
